It’s based on one of my favorite Greek myths, Baucis and Philemon. They were an old couple who was granted a wish because of their hospitality to the gods. They chose to wish that when one died, the other would die as well, so neither would have to live a day without each other. Upon death, they were changed into two different trees growing from the same trunk, one an oak, the other an linden.
