Difficulty Trying To Buy BOCs

I feel like we’re just guinea pigs to test their code for bugs. I don’t know how many times I clicked Buy on today’s appsclusive Bag of Coins to never make any progress. Just clicking again and again after 3-5 seconds. At least the VoP felt like progress. The reloading buy button sucks.

I think it means the original developer was a huge “I am Legend” fan and included tons of references to the film in the code making it hard to understand the syntax and logic.

Think of the BOC buying problem off late this way…

The server is a funnel. A rather large one.

Usually orders go through fine because either they all can fit through the down spout or the server can rack and stack them so they go through easily. However the down spout size will never change.

Even when BOCs are bought with no problem (like last night’s “leftovers” sale), it’s because the servers can handle the number of clicks going through the channels set up for them.

Now when 5 million people are clicking on multiple devices and in browsers and phones and such imagine this. You are a server with only so many slots available to route stuff to go to the computers that process the clicks, then respond to reach on that makes it through and send a response (that those servers again have to route back out to you). Now let’s say you have 2,000 slots you can send people through. You are looking at the horizon knowing a BOC went up for sale. You anticipate a lot of people coming soon. What you didn’t expect is a mob so big that they are riding on other people’s shoulders and the sun is now blackened out. You shudder and a little trickle of pee comes out. You try your best to tell them people you can only route them so fast but they mob your station and start trying to cut through walls to get through. You are now in the fetal position in the corner crying and hoping for a quick death. It is there corner of your eye you see the “504 error” button and know if you can just get to it, you can slow the mob down and kill some off so maybe a lucky few will make it through unscathed. You crawl on your lips (because standing up and showing yourself and what you plan on doing is surely a death sentence) and manage to make it to the button. You protect it with your very life, hitting it repeatedly until enough people are taken out.

This all happens in nanoseconds by the way.

Just a sort of picture of what happens when enough people click buttons.

THE END!

Until your order, I was the only one crazy stupid enough to buy it after its debut day.

Other orders have since happened, however.

Kinda snarky comment on the bottom of the order, all things considered.

Woot is very snarky in general. It’s kind of part of its charm

Certainly need to call in Alexander to share his laughing hour.

True, although I’m still judging you.

So…kinda like when the toilet gets clogged?

I can see the connection there. And it’s equally crappy.
