Clearly a clever design
Botany Bay is located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, one of the most well known historic penal colonies for the British Empire. During the Eugenics war, Khan Noonien Singh led genetically enhanced humans in an attempt to enslave the less evolved “un-enhanced” humans. After a bitter war with large casualties on both sides, Khan and his followers were exiled from the rest of humanity until Captain James T. Kirk and crew of the USS Enterprise stumbled apon them. The SS Botany Bay is the name of Khan’s prisoner transport sleeper ship. It should be noted that not all enhanced people followed Khan, some factions split off to peacfully colonize their own civilizations, but all were shunned by “normal” humans.
