Dyson Air Multiplier Bladeless Pedestal Fan

Bladeless is a bit of a lie … yeah, there are no blades where the air exits, but in the base is your basic blade fan.

I’m pretty sure I saw this when I visited the Smart House at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.

Neat.

These are only useful if you have pets. And not smart pets. Because they cant get anything hurt by these fans. These fans still have a little fan inside of the base, and are great if you want to impress dumb people (70% of the world) or must have the coolest overpriced thing (read, iPad or new iPhone) But if you can afford them, they are cool

Maybe for 29.95 !

It actually has blades, but they’re in the base. And it’s apparently quite loud…

How do these even work?
[/quote]

It has a fan at the base, which sucks air, sends it up the pipe and jets it out from inside the circle edge. It accelerates the air around, thus the multiplication.

The same amount of air can be moved with $20 fan

Oh boy a fan, just in time for another sweltering winter.

Now woot’s thinking with portals?

5 minutes in and not a single sale…well, now there’s a sale. That’s when you know it’s bad

Dang, I’m laughing so hard I’ve got to be careful not to wake up my wife in the other room.

Is it lightweight enough to use as a leafblower?

What is the diameter of the ring on top? The table top versions come in differnt sizes but I cannot find a description of the ring size on this model.

Here is a great video to show the diversity of the product!

This thing would have to blow me before I’d spend $200 on it. Wait a minute… never mind.

If I put a big round glass in it, I could set some really big bugs on fire.

Meh. Dyson is like Apple, they take an existing product, sex it up with a few innovations and a lot of stylish looks and marketing, and charge a fortune for it. I’ll stick to my $30 tower fan from Walmart…

Or you could buy a Vornado for a fifth of the price and get a much better fan!

Will it blow dirt in the direction of my Roomba?

There’s a fan in the base that blows air up to the ring, where it’s dispersed. They aren’t as awesomely magic as they appear :frowning:

magic is “MAGIC” because we dont know how it works. nobody would go to a magician if we knew all the tricks and how they worked. why do you have to ruin the magic?

I tried the tabletop versions at Blood Bath and Beyond, and I was underwhelmed. Yes, it was very quiet, mainly because it did a lousy job at moving air. And this is from someone who can’t sleep with a noisy fan. I stuck with my Vornado. If you want to be the first kid on the block, and to keep up with the neighbors, this is the fan for you.
