[MOD: not seeing it]

I’m sure that I am not the first to observe that there always seems to be a lot of refurbished Dyson products for sale. Is this part of their marketing strategy? Sell your product at a high price, provide no question refund or replacement at first sign of a failure, and then sell refurbs for slightly discounted price making profit on both sales. Pretty ingenious actually.

Which model? Thanks.

I bought one if these for myself and it is simply fantastic. I want to purchase one for my daughter as a gift but I need to make sure the packaging dies NOT show what is inside. I can’t recall how mine came.

My wife and I LOVE our Dyson cordless vac and use it heavily with husky dog hair. (LOTS and LOTS of hair.) After nearly two years of use, it quit working. I called Dyson and after trying a couple of troubleshooting suggestions failed, the rep sent another unit. So, no, my experience suggests they are not scamming anybody.

We have a Dyson upright. Then we got a hold of a (free) Shark.

The Dyson doesn’t suck anywhere near as much as the Shark. The Shark fills its tank on the left-behinds from the Dyson.

Now our Dyson sits in the closet, lonely, collecting dust balls on the outside whilst the Shark happily gets fed 1-2 times per week.

Acknowledgment: both vacuums have needed to be disassembled for “issues”. In the repair domain, Shark sucks… in the bad way. It is very difficult to service. Smaller parts are obtainable only from junked Sharks on fleaBay. Shark only sells mostly large assemblies.

Go to a vacuum repair faculty with an ill Shark - they’ll laugh you out of the place. So if you aren’t handy and like to nurse every bit of life out of your devices rather than toss them, Shark might be a challenge.

In this way, Dyson is the greener choice, it even leaves some food in the carpet for the dust mites.

On the surface, we do not have enough info to make your conclusions.

  1. We don’t know the comparative sales of Dyson vs. the others. It could be both that Dyson sells a lot more.

  2. We don’t know the refurb sales process for everyone. It could be that Dyson resells 100% of its refurbs via third parties whilst others either sell direct or trash some of their refurbs.

And as to “making a profit on both sales”… how does Dyson do that when they have a no questions asked 100% refund policy? They’re giving the buyer 100% of their money back and they have to refurb and reship the vacuum. As a small business owner, the last thing I want is returns.

Selling 100% of your refurb vacuums might actually be a way to sell your over-priced product at lower prices without tainting the high prices.

In fact, I’d be curious whether Dyson (or others) occasionally “lets excess new inventory slip” into the refurb food chain. As long as the refurb price is higher than their variable cost, they still come out ahead without resorting to image-hurting excess inventory sales discounts.

We have a hairy dog too, and bought one of these refurbished V6 cordless models I think about 2 years ago. My husband and I cannot believe the hair it finds. The only drawback is that the canister can be hard to empty. It may be a function of how overfilled it is. I never check tosee if it is getting filled up. I jsut dump it when I am finished using it.
This is one of the best purchases we ever made.

Happy Monday! The buyer has had some coffee and is in a good mood for a Monday morning. She’s gone and lowered the price of the Animal Canister vac to $148.99!!! Can you believe it???

If you already purchased, that money will hop back into your pockets soonish.

$10 more for brand-new handheld…and I’m pretty sure factory warranty is 2 years for new items.

Even better than from the Mothership or BB&B: New from Dyson on their website is the V6 Handheld $129.99 ($70 off) AND your choice of three free tools when you auto-register. I ordered one last week and there was free shipping and no sales tax.

It was the same handheld as offered here but it is gone now. Sorry.

Yeah, but there are always those pesky little details like where it says “Not available to order” and again "this product is not available to order."

Details, details…

I think the post is still helpful. The original poster purchased one last week. So recently they were available

It is more information available to someone considering buying. If you don’t need it right away perhaps holding off and watching the manufactures store is the way to go.

When you guys post things like this, can you also post a link to the item? Use the “formatting guide” link if you’re not sure how to link to pages, or just paste the URL.

I think a lot of people here are interested in the best deal, and if there’s one better than Woot, we (and Woot staff) would be interested. Woot often lowers their prices and refunds the difference for those who already bought if the item is legitimately for sale for cheaper at another site.
