In the Box:

  • Charging Cable

Hopefully that is more than a “charging cable”. The 3rd gen Echo Dot has a proprietary wall wart and permanently attached power cable to connect to the barrel port on the Dot. No universal MicroUSB power port like the 1st and 2nd gen Echo Dots.

And there is no internal battery to “charge”.

The 3rd gen Echo Dot remains the best Dot of all four generations.

While the 4th gen Dot might sound very slightly better (only in back to back comparisons), that irritating globular form factor, covered in fabric, is a nasty dust collector. And you cannot simply dust it off like the prior Dots.

The 3rd gen Dot is built like a brick and puts out surprisingly decent, if not fully dynamic, clean sound.

We will be skipping the 4th gen Echo and Echo Dots, hoping Amazon eventually returns to earth from its celestial designs. (Bezos?)
