Bought one of these the last time they popped up and was very surprised to find how slow it is to respond. Much slower the even my Gen 1 Echo Dots…

Bought one of these last time in the “Used - Very Good” condition and I was pleasantly surprised. Except for a small pinhole in the back speaker, it looked brand new! Edit - June 28, 2022 - received in one day directly from the Mother Ship and in EXCELLENT/New condition!!!

Hmmm. $70 for a used Echo Show 10 (Actually 1st gen, not 2nd gen, in spite of Amazon’s odd naming convention since this was the first Show 10… the very first Echo Show actually had a 7” screen) $10 less than last time when we bought a used one here a couple months ago. Could this be a “fool us once, shame on you, fool us twice, shame on us?” situation?

That first one was defective, with very obvious weird brown-yellow defects in the display. And the device was not perfectly clean. Thankfully Woot Customer Service took it back without debate.

We already have one Echo Show 10 we bought several years ago as an Amazon Recert (higher up on the condition scale vs “Used, Very Good”). We like it very much and want another. No interest in the odd follow-me motorized latest Show 10 that replaced it.

Hmm…

[EDIT]
Broke down and placed the bet.

In for two. Hopefully they are good quality. Will hopefully be better to access our eufy cams than the 2nd gen echo 8s we are using.

As a side note, if you have an older echo may be a good time to upgrade to an echo 15. They are on sale now for $250 at the mother ship and with the 25% off for trade in, drops the price to $187. They gave me $30 on top of that for my echo spot, so it goes all the way down to $157.49 + tax. (Essentially they are giving me $92.50 for the spot).

They give you 25% off ($62.50)+ $50 gift card for this echo show 10 (2). So you could buy one here and trade it in and still make out on the deal

  1. We’ve found the Show 10 to be a solid way to view our many Wyze cams… if a bit slow to bring up the video. But we blame that lack of responsiveness on the Wyze side since we’ve also noticed Wyze smart plugs and Wyze smart bulbs are painfully slow to respond to Alexa - unlike our TP-Link stuff, which is very responsive. The Show 10 is also a solid streaming music device.

  2. As for the Show 15, while we have loads of Echo devices and like them, without a truly bargain basement deal of closer to $100-125, we’ll wait for gen 2 of it. Unfortunately for the Show 15, we tried it out at our local Amazon store prior to them closing down. Sound quality was too mediocre for a $180-250 device. The manager confirmed the Show 15 basically has Echo Dot speakers. Don’t get me wrong, Amazon is long overdue for a kitchen whiteboard type of device and we want one. But we’ll also wait until the software has matured to match the large form factor.

(BTW, a further Show 15 thought - since it is likely a kitchen device, our only logical wall space for it happens to have an old landline telephone jack on it but no convenient 120 VAC wall receptacle for the kind of bulky wall wart. I’ve considered repurposing those solid copper wires from the basement - tying them all into a single pair - to power a Show by “hot wiring” into the supplied Show power supply cord. Concern is whether there’d be interference due to the telephone wire not being shielded.)

Yeah, we already have one show 10 and the eufy cams come up with about the same speed as the show 8. I blame it on both Amazon and eufy, but Amazon has no reason to improve it since they don’t make eufys. While it could be faster, it is faster than pulling it up on our phones, especially if we were woken up by an alert. Phone in hand and open, the phone wins tho. (We already have Alexa anounce motion alerts, need to see if I can make a macro to auto display it on certain devices.)

Already concerned about the show 15s sound quality. We do use an echo 10 in the kitchen now, so we were expecting a downgrade from that. We do have an echo studio we could pair and repurpose to the kitchen for music etc. Then it comes down to space really, will take some figuring out (esp power like you situation). A studio in the kitchen may be overkill, but thinking about it, it’s where we listen to music the most, so it makes sense to have the best Alexa (we have) there.

Based on the reviews it seems the echo 15 has a ways to go, we are in just such a need for a shared calendar/white board utility right now, no time to wait.

Understood. If you have an Echo Studio, all other Echo devices pale in comparison for streaming music. None of them comes close. We want one but haven’t been able to justify the full price, even though it isn’t poorly priced for the sound quality. And it doesn’t get discounted. BTW, that Amazon store manager told me the Echo Studio has 12 or 13 processors in it - explaining why it was not even available for a period of time… and not discounted.

Ah, I was hoping the echo studio would go on sale again (and maybe the echo sub) but that would explain it. They don’t do the trade-in deal on it either, which would really help me get that price down.

After moving it to the kitchen and grouping it with the show 10 (2nd gen), I have to say it doesn’t add that much to the overall spund. The studio is much more impressive playing dolby Atmos content than just music (which is why I want another one, to pair them together with my fire stick.)

Back to the original thread - I received both unit (very good condition) and they look and function like new.

Ours arrived the very next day, even though we ordered it on Sunday, impressive and clearly provisioned by Amazon.

However, having an unlucky streak with used Amazon Echo Devices. 2 for 2 negative on the last two Amazon “Very Good Used” devices.

  1. The wall wart plug was packed with its prongs facing the fabric back of the Echo Show… so it gouged a tear in the fabric. Was able to tease the fabric back flat, so the damage, while still visible, is not nearly as bad.

  2. More concerning - there’s some distortion along the very right edge of the screen. It doesn’t directly interfere with content, but of course the concern is whether it gets worse.

After discussing with Woot Customer Support, we’re trying to decide whether to keep it in exchange for a small discount or return it…

Received mine and it was DOA. Ordered a brand new 1st gen Show 8 from the mothership for the same price (as plan B).
