Echo Show (2nd Gen) - 10.1”

Note, if you’re eager for the honor of paying Amazon another $10/month (or paying for Prime, which we all know will be getting another price hike) to use Amazon’s shiny new AI version of Alexa…this “Echo Show (2nd Gen) 10.1 in” (actually a 1st Gen for the 10 inch size Show) does NOT meet the AI Alexa spec according to Amazon’s pre-registration requirements for AI Alexa. Very few older Echo devices do.

This is particularly aggravating given how Amazon has allowed “legacy” Alexa’s quality of service to so severely deteriorate over the past 18+ months, seemingly in preparation to make AI Alexa look better.

So that’s it I was wondering why my Alexa is being slow to respond among other things. I didn’t even put two and two together thanks, And I was also looking into this to upgrade because of that You just saved me a chunk of money.

Thanks. I wasn’t even aware that there is or will be an AI version of Alexa and existing Echo’s will not be compatible. I have 3 Echo Show 8s, 1 is first generation, 2 are 2nd generation, I also have 1 Echo Show 10, I think 2nd generation. No way am I replacing these to be able to use an AI enhanced Alexa! I like my Echo shows and what they can do, but I won’t be upgrading. I will say that I find Siri much more informative than Alexa. When Alexa can’t answer a question, Seri normally always can.

Update: Looks like my Echos will be able to use the Alexa+ upgrade. I do pay for Amazon Prime. From internet search: Alexa+ is set to roll out in the United States over the next few weeks, starting with Echo Show models 8, 10, 15, and the new Echo Show 21. Amazon plans to expand compatibility to other Alexa-enabled devices and introduce a dedicated Alexa+ mobile app in the coming months.
