Wait. A brand new 2nd Gen Show 10” at this point? What rock did these crawl out from under?
A very nice Echo Show model for a very nice price at $130.
I wondered the same thing
You can get the newest Echo Show and a blink mini for $135
All-new Echo Show 8 (2nd Gen, 2021 release) - Charcoal bundle with Blink Mini https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08ZN82HH7/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_6DWBJH41B68VFYPJ99AG?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Two inches smaller. Size matters.
The 2nd Gen Show 8 by itself has a list price of $130.
Between this Woot deal “2nd gen Show” (10) …. Amazon should have called it the original/1st gen Show 10 since that is what it was…. and the 2nd gen Show 8 you linked, for the same price, the choice would depend on your use case.
I’d go with the Show 10 unless I wanted to do video calls on it. But even then it would be a tough “call”.
The larger size screen of the Show 10 is very noticeably better for streaming videos and reading content than(edit) Show 8. Both screens are the same 1280 x 800 resolution.
However unlike the latest Show 10 (the one that follows you with a motor and is a lot more expensive) this Show 10 has a 5 megapixel camera. Both the latest Show 10 and 2nd gen Show 8 have 13 megapixel cameras.
The sound quality is similar between this Show 10 and the Show 8, with more bass on the 10, but that bass can sound a bit too boomy at higher volume levels.
Personally, I’d stick with the Show 10 even with the lower rez camera.
(We own both this Show 10 and the 1st gen Show 8.)
I prefer the 2nd gen show 8s, but to each their own
Even if this was a tad bit better, I wouldn’t pay the same price for a refurb with virtually no warranty - but that is just my thought
I have a 5, 8, and 2 10s. One of the 10s is in my home, the other in a nursing home for my mother. Love the 10s. they are clear sound, great picture. Easy for her to communicate at 93 years old. Love all shows and I appreciate Amazon no end for having these for us.
However, this $130 Echo Show 10 is a new unit with full 1-year Amazon warranty!
Agreed - while my 82-year old mother is not in assisted care, we bought a Show 8 for her and it is super easy to do video calls. She can also do FaceTime on her iPhone and iPad, but the Show 8 is so easy.
She also enjoys playing her classical music station on her Show 8. Especially nice sound quality for classical music.
And while her “over 55” community condo has a necklace “I’ve fallen” emergency system, she can also verbally call for help via her Echo devices. Next for her - an Apple Watch with fall detection and automatic 911.
If you don’t mind me asking, what Apple watch are you considering for the fall detection? I have a friend who I would like to get one for, just for this feature
For fall detection, of the current Apple Watch models, it would have to be either the 7 ($399) or SE ($279) since the 3 ($199) does not have it.
We’re a bit torn between the 7 & SE since our mother uses a traditional analog watch, meaning her “display” is “always on” - no wrist flip needed. ![]()
Only the 7 has an always on display. The 7 also adds the Blood Ox and OCG health functions. Even though the outside case dimensions of the 7 are only a it larger, the usable display is noticeably larger, if that matters.
All three models have swim proof water resistance and heart sensor.
A frustrating thing about Apple’s otherwise very informative site - unlike for phones and tablets, their watch compare function only lists the currently sold models.
