Are these energy hogs like a space heater? My son’s room gets chilly, but our space heater craps on our energy bill.
I wonder how this would work mounted on a wall with a northern exposure?
Also, go read the reviews on Amazon where they cost $100. Evidently these things tend to crack.

I was about to jump on this until i saw the review on Amazon about how it caught fire. Pass.
Hey! Fire will warm the room too!

Only 400 watts, so I wouldn’t think so. It reminds me of an electric towel warmer for the bathroom. It should warm up a small room about the same amount as leaving your computer running.
I will freeze, but at least I know my wall will be warm
I wonder how well this would work for a large chicken coop during the winter. Mount it on the wall away and above from the hay, near an outlet and block it off so none of the chickens relieve themselves on it. Anyone find any other information on the unit?
Edit: Yikes, fire? Guess not
Awesome, now my walls won’t cold this winter. Well, one will have to be cold since I can only order 3.
I just bought this model from Home Depot a few days ago for $80.
Within 24 hours it had cracked in three places from heat stress. It still works, but I’ll exchange it anyway since it seems to be getting worse. This seems to be a common problem with this model, despite switching from an acrylic to a silica based housing.
In this time period I’ve found:
- It stinks for the first 12 hours or so of use. After that it’s fine.
- It keeps our baby’s room (12x16) at 72 when the rest of the house is at 66.
- Installing it is a pain. You should understand how to mount it in to drywall.
- Installation in to a material other drywall requires parts that aren’t included… You would need to get that separately.
No reviews at Home Depot, and the reviews at Amazon are for an older model so we could assume that the issues of the past may have been resolved.

You don’t want to put it anywhere there’s moisture.
Hey how come it’s still showing 100% available, but my order has been withheld and I’m on the waiting list?

According to pytchfork’s post above yours, the cracking problem does NOT seem to have been fixed.

Why yikes? It’ll cook those chickens for you!
Hi I just purchased and returned this at Lowe’s last week. It just doesn’t throw off enough heat to be useful.
No thermostat.
You are not alone… Very odd. And annoying.
Judging by that infrared video, this thing will do a great job of keeping your ceiling warm. Next up: ceiling fan.
