Does anyone know anything about these? The Amazon reviews seem to be in favor of them, but there are enough negative review to make me wonder if I can trust them in an emergency.

I don’t have this one but have their FRX4 and FRX5. They aren’t as rugged as they would have you believe (C+/ B- build quality). It uses a rechargeable battery pack only (no alkaline AA, AAA, 9V, etc…) if you don’t have a way to recharge them (the crank on mine don’t feel like they’re made for heavy-duty use) you’re out of luck. The solar panels on these types of units don’t charge very fast. It has a weatherband but don’t believe it has an alert function. The tuners are ok, not great but will get the job done. With a one year warranty it’s worth a try for the price. Hope this helps.
It always concerns me when they game the review display. Even choosing “recent” doesn’t give you a legitimate sort by date, just 5 star reviews spanning years.
