It’s a steel string dreadnought guitar. It’s acoustic, not acoustic-electric, though you could add a pickup (e.g., LR Baggs) and adapt the guitar to acoustic-electric.

There is no greater discouragement to learning how to play an instrument than something that won’t stay in tune, and has terrible intonation and overall sound.
Never buy cheap when it comes to something that can become so significant in your child’s life or your own.
