Fire HD 10 Tablet (2019, 9th Gen)

If you are getting a Fire 10, get this 2019 at a minimum. Not the 2017 version. Nice size, HD screen, charges quickly. Uses older version of Woot app for shopping and appsclusive stuff.

I have bought 2 of these. Both looked Grand Spanking New. Not a scratch or fingerprint. They are great. 5/5 stars, especially for the price.

I agree. I had the 2017 model, and it would get beaten out by a slug if it was in a race.

So, serious question here:

Even though the price is rather low, is it worth purchasing the 2019 model? I’m in need of one for e-textbooks and seeing Kindle books in color-not really into streaming, etc.

Thanks!!

Yes. I got a 8.9" Fire, HDX a buncha years ago (and it was new!) refurbished. Did everything great. The one thing I couldn’t do is download some google play apps. And it started to lose charge too quick, but I swear, I got it 6 years ago for $170 bucks! I replaced with a generic android tablet, it’s heavy and sucks compared to the Fire.

I love mine and used it for several grad school classes.

Yes, you can add a SDcard to increase storage. Portable, nice display, can’t beat the price. If you want to upgrade later, you can always trade it into Amazon for the latest & greatest model.

I would suggest a tempered glass screen protector and a decent case. Probably cost $30 on the mothership.

Does the sideloading of the google play store work easily with this model?

I have not rooted mine since it voids warranty.

****Can the Toolbox be used to root my tablet?****

Primarly, rooting a Fire Tablet requires the user to open the back of the device and short out a certain point on the motherboard. The Toolbox has been designed for folks who’d rather not bark down this alley. It uses the power of ADB to make changes, and is meant to be an alternative to rooting. In summary, the Toolbox isn’t designed to root.
This tool says it will remove ads. I want to try it.

Let me know if you find an easy way to add Google Store.

It’s too bad that I never even got a chance to “not” like the tablet—as it appears that once again, Amazon’s amazing (SARCASM) delivery folks flubbed up yet another “local” TBA… (the first part of Amz’s own tracking #’s) delivery.

Whenever I see it’s a TBA…delivery these days (meaning, it’s being delivered by one of/a member of the MotherShip’s calvary of inept (more often than not) delivery folks, I usually can count on not receiving my item.

And yet, here we are, 3 weeks out and I still have no tablet - but according to Amazon’s delivery folks— “it was left in a safe place.” Yeah, like the back of the delivery person’s car.

FWIW, I hope 2 things: the back of the supposed vehicle is super duper hot, and that the one they sent me was going to end up a lemon :lemon: anyway. Why, you ask? Just bc I’m a little bitter about the whole thing.

And yes, I will write to Woot CS, but it’s more the fact that I have to go to all that effort bc somebody else couldn’t make the effort to ensure I got my package.

Ok folks. End of rant. Promise.

The display resolution specs on the HDX still are very high. The CPU is fast on paper but Antutu scores are surprisingly lower than one would expect. The apps that run that have not lost support are impressive in clarity. The 2014 version is responsive. Discernibly a bit faster than the 2013 (A Woot purchase). What bugs me is that the Amazon app store is without exaggeration, beneath mediocre. If you Google, it is a common realization.

  • Some software (even purchased ones) no longer work because Amazon would not support the authors.
  • So my suggestion is research what apps you want first and check the app store.
  • WebEx has not been supported in years. Zoom does. Goto Meeting does. How long? Uncertain.

For reading e-books, the 7" and 8.9" form factor is superb.
If for streaming, newer versions post 2017 are still mostly OK. But be warned HULU installs, but may not be supported! Same with Disney plus. The film loads then a incompatibility notice pops up. One runs the risk of planned obsolescence and a feeble level of prior installed / paid software support. I have bought them from Woot. But please realize the limitations.
