1. Is FreedomPop really free?
Yes, by activating on the 100% free, you’ll be able to get 200 minutes, 500 texts, and 500MB of data for free each and every month. Just buy the phone and you’ll never have to pay another phone bill again. Upgrading to unlimited talk & text is only $10.99/month.

2. What network does FreedomPop use?
FreedomPop uses Sprint’s 4G LTE and 3G networks. Calls and texts are made through FreedomPop’s VoIP messaging app, so you must have a data connection in order to send/receive calls and texts. Go to to view the full coverage. As a way to save your free data allotment, you can also connect to any local WiFi network, such as the one in your home or work.

3. Are there any special add-on services that I can get?
One of our top value-added services is Premium Voice. If Premium Voice is active on your account, then your phone calls will be redirected through Sprint’s Voice Network, rather than going through VoIP. Adding Premium Voice costs $3.99/month.

4. What do I do after receiving my phone?
After you get your FreedomPop phone, please go to Enter in the MEID of your phone, along with your desired email address to be associated with your FreedomPop account. Follow the steps to get fully activated. You will select your FreedomPop phone number during the activation process.

I love my Samsung Galaxy S4, however my vast experience with FreedomPop’s customer service / technical support has been nothing short of HORRIBLE!

To provide details of that experience would consume more time and space than I can give here.

In summary, I would never recommend FreedomPop to anyone.

It’s a trap! The short of it is, I decided to give them another try, thinking that maybe after a couple of years they got their stuff together. They didn’t send the freebies as advertised, which was no big deal. I downgraded my premium service before it was up to avoid charges. That same day, I was charged. I called them, and they agreed that I downgraded in time, but said that I had a second card. I promised them I only ordered and received one card, and demanded that they deactivate the other card. The operator suggested instead that I downgrade the the second card that I never received. I convinced her to cancel it, but did not get a refund. I called back to get an automated message stating that phone support is only for premium members, but that it could be purchased for $3.99 per month. I sent an email, and their automated response is that I would receive a reply in 2-3 business days. After a week, I contested the charge with my credit card company. They said I would receive a refund. A week after that, I received a reply from Freedompop saying that I should have contacted them before contesting the charge, and as a result my freedom pop account was permanently suspended unless I submitted an appeal. I complained that it took them 2 weeks to reply to my email after refusing me phone support, and that had I not contested the charge they probably would not have replied at all. They sent me a reply stating that their charge was valid even after I explained that I’d only ordered and received one SIM card. I’ll never trust them again. If you do not need my warning or the warnings of others regarding this company, at least use a prepaid credit card to protect yourself from fraudulent charges.

My experience with FreedomPop is that I got it for my son as a starter phone. After the FREE part mysteriously went away, I got charged 8 bucks a month. I had to cancel the account a few months later as he didn’t keep his grades up. I did the cancel procedure, but they kept billing me. When I would call they would say the cancellation was done and I should see no charges. Then the next month would come and another 8 bucks would show up. Months back, I got fed up and asked for a refund as I didn’t use the phone. I finally got a refund and then a week after that, they charged me again. Ugh, I just ended up selling the phone to a friend’s Mom who pays for it now. Not a bad service, but don’t think that it is free. It is CHEAP, but not free.

While my experience with freeloaderprop is not as bad as others, IT’S A TRAP!
I get a message that I have slow connection due to my area, but IF I upgrade, I will get better service. WAIT< WHAT? If I pay them more, I suddenly am in a better service area?


BTW, I also have Sprint on my main phone, and as an apples to apples comparison, I get the same reception as with the freedomplop phone, so why the message stating poor service area? ITS DAMM PHOENIX PEOPLE, not some hill in bumcrap Colorado or something!


Let me add to the pile…

I have had Freedompop service for about 7 months now - I originally purchased and paid for the 1 Year/1GB per month plan with unlimited calls and texts. I paid for this plan in full when I ordered it, so in theory I shouldn’t be bothered for a full year (any data I use is on wi-fi so I don’t get overages).

Here’s the rub - about every 3-4 weeks Freedompop has suspended my account for no reason. I’ve had to contact Customer Service (which you can no longer reach by phone), email them through their website (which says they will reply in 2-3 days but takes more like 4-6), post on their message boards (which may not help if they don’t read it because your comment gets flooded under by many other similar problems) and PM employees who post on the messages boards and hope to get a reply. Needless to say the best I can say about their customer service is that is “difficult”.

Now so far they have managed to clear and reactivate my account every time by “refreshing” it (whatever that means), but it has run up to a week between when it is suspended until I can contact someone and get my service back. No amount of updating the apps or the phone or reinstalling has worked except this mysterious “refresh” only they can do.

And to add a cherry on top, while they have been able to restart my service, they have been unable to prevent the problem from happening again 3-4 weeks later.

The upshot is Freedompop’s service may be cheap (or even free) but is not reliable from an account management perspective. It is unacceptable that my fully-paid account should be suspended on such a regular basis, customer service should be so difficult to reach for a customer who has already paid in full, and that the problem should continue to reoccurr without explanation or any real hope of a fix. If cell service is important in any way to you then I would not recommend Freedompop until they get these issues fixed.

You get what you pay for. The Freedompop service has been substandard in regard to Sprints network and the customer service isn’t the best that’s what you paid for. If you want to pay $100+ a month for a cell phone than you’ll have a cell store to visit for customer service. I’ve been using Freedompop for two years now and it’s been very good for texting and calls. Paying about $13.99 per month for unlimited talk and texts is a bargain. If you use the internet to manage your account it’s been very easy. If you want basic cell phone for very cheap this is a good option. Be sure you get Sprint coverage in your area.

Ok folks, my wife bought several of these phones thinking she would be able to use them instead of our normal Verizon phones. Let me just say this, Freedom Pop has made 3 unauthorized charges to my wives account. It took her two weeks to finally get one of the phones to work properly. They told my wife they would give her a refund etc, which she hasn’t seen yet (that’s been 3 months now) There is hardly no way to contact them, and when you do send an email etc, if you get a response at all your lucky. Then if you do manage to get someone on a phone to talk to, they act like they are doing you a favor. All in all stay away from this company and their bullsh*t. Like I said they suck little burro balls, and try to bend you over without even giving you a kiss. So you have been warned. Proceed at your own risk, simple as that.

My FP phone never worked well but works on occasion. I have the “free” plan but somehow was charged $15 the other day b/c I ran out of data. I THINK I set my account to NOT auto charge- not that I should have to since I don’t recall opting into this feature.
