I seem to recall people saying this was a $500 item?!?
People, if you have nothing nice to say, keep it zipped. The “I don’t think this is a good deal, where are all the good deals” topic is old and woot! hasn’t been around much longer than a month.
Suggested woot! strategy: stay up till midnight, look at item. Want it, then buy it. On the fence, google it. Think woot! is ripping you off, turn your computer off or go surf more porn.
Jebus but the whining is almost enough to make me skip the community. Frankly if I were woot! staff and the community was you thankless, whining momos, I would rethink my marketing strategy.
   I have been waiting for this one to come back, but refuse to pay $40 more, Tivo stay the same price why couldnt this one stay the same? PASS PASS PASS
I’d love one of these, but based on the warning on the Friendly website, I’ll pass:
"To all customers and potential customers. Please be advised that the “BRAND NEW” RL500’s being sold by unauthorized resellers on E-bay or other Websites like Overstock.com are not current quality mowers. These are units auctioned from a former distribution company and ARE NOT units from Friendly North America, the valid distributor for Friendly Robotics® branded products. These units carry NO WARRANTY from Friendly North America or any other authorized reseller in the US. They are units that will not perform or operate in a satisfactory manner without upgrades to both hardware and software. The manufacturer has advised us that these units were scheduled for re-work but were sold at auction prior to this task being performed. You may contact Friendly North America with any questions.
I dont understand why people complain about this so much. You all act as if Woot owes you something. If you dont like the product or dont feel the price is low enough for you then dont purchase it, as a consumer that the best way to send a message to the company. This many not be your particular bag of tea but I guarantee you someone out there found this to be a great deal and are taking advantage of it.
The fact that you are here right after midnight just to see the next item to go for sale is a testament to what Woot has been able to create here. Dont bash them just because they didnt floor you with some incredible deal that you seem to be expecting from them.

Woot clearly states that they want good and BAD pricing opinions / feedback. Everyone here is entitled to their opinion wether it be good or bad. Stop waisting your post wining about the “winers” and put your feedback in.
Oh, and by the way, you can’t surf porn if you turn your computer off…

Agree with you. We are giveing feedbacks, what we think, what we feeling about Woot. I’m not complain anything about woot.
I didn’t jump on robomower deal last time because woot.com was still new and i just could not risk $180. Now that woot.com is already reliable for me (I’ve ordered something and I got what I ordered), $40 is still a good premium.
Anyway, how long is the perimeter wire that come this? anyone? I am considering to buy additional perimeter wire.
I’m guessing the reason the price went up is because of the 97 lbs of shipping for $5. Even if you look at a new $500 model, how much is that really shipped?? The could do what ebayers do and sell this for $25 + $200 shipping!
I don’t think Woot sells things for just over what tey can buy them for–I think they sell them for as much as they think they can get in 24 hours. Like the $50 video cards–apparently, those were available in bulk for $20 each (or so claimed a long-time FatWallet or Anandtech member, who bought 500 of them for that price). I"m not complaining too much–I bought two of the cards (though no mower ), but we should realize this isn’t always a bargain-basement kind of thing.
I’m pretty sure these are just the ones that they didn’t sell last time. They aren’t selling them for just over what they get them for then, they’re trying to get some real money off of this one. Too bad it’s a robo mower.
You guys have no idea what the surplus and closeout market is like. Sure, you could have bought those cards from yesterday for $20 each. Minimum order would probably be at least 200. So, to get your “sweet deal” you’d have to lay out about $2000 (plus shipping) and then convince 199 of your friends to buy the rest off of you. That’s roughly how it works. You can get fantastic deals, but you gotta lay out some cash to do it, and that’s what these companies do. They buy off the bulk with large cash outlays up front then sell off the items either individually or as smaller lots to smaller retailers. The smaller the lot, the bigger the markup percentage.
Woot is cutting to the chase and selling off stuff directly from their extra lots of things and so you’re only paying the markup for the one distributer, not the markup that’s compounded over a couple different distributers.
It’s also extremely volitile. You never know what kind of product you’re going to get the deal on next, and even if it’s the same product, there’s no guarentee you’re going to get the same deal. Often times, the surplus is bought at auction, which is doubley weird in that you can have the same thing go for two completely different prices in the same hour.
So, Woot go the first batch, sold them at a markup. They got a second batch that wasn’t as good of a deal, but still not bad, and are selling them with the same markup, but the end result is a higher price because their cost flucuates.
I love that people are upset because woot had it cheaper before. If they’d had it at $250 last time, a fair number of people would have still thought it was a great deal and then people would have been really excited at this $220 price.
I wouldn’t say people are “upset” about the $40 higher price… I for one would like to buy one, except I can’t get over the fact that it was $40 cheaper. Knowing that others got a better deal only motivates me to wait… for a price drop here, or somewhere else.
I have one of these so I will attempt to answer a couple of questions put forth on this forum.
The maximum incline these things will do is 15 degrees, according to the manual. In my experience it is less, especially with thicker grass types.
Perimeter wire: It comes with 1000 feet if I remember correctly. However, when I ran out I just used regular 18 gauge wire. You are much more likely to run out of stakes prior to running out of wire, however.
Additional Info: This thing has 3 small blades rather than one large one. Therefore it doesn’t cut tall shoots of grass as well as you might hope. The tires slip on damp or thick grass and small ditches.
We have had a wet summer here, and mine has had trouble keeping up. I have sectioned my yard into 3 parts. Assuming it is not raining, I will start the mower when I get home after work. It will cut for about 3 hours before needing to be recharged. Then it takes approximately 24 hours to recharge, so I am unable to cut the next day. Unless you want to be out really late. Just about the time I am finished with the last section it is time to start the first again.
It doesn’t cut in any type of apparent pattern. It goes across the lawn, pivots, and returns on a different angle. Therefore, in order to do a complete job, it needs to go over the lawn several times.
All that being said, I did order one. I figure if nothing else the blades, extra battery, and extra supplies are well worth the price. And it tends to do a pretty fair job. You will still need to do some cutting in places it can’t get, as well as trimming the edges.
All of the above is opinion, and to the best of my recollection.
