How well will this run Windows 7 and does this qualify for a free upgrade to Windows 7? My dad bought an HP and they sent him a free upgrade just the other day…
not really
atom processor is in-order processing which makes it inefficient.
this processor is out-order processing
read up on it and you’ll see what i mean…
if u don’t need a cd/dvd, this is the better deal…
This is enticing. Got an Asus EEE 900A a while ago from Woot and liked it originally, but it’s just too small and underpowered. My biggest gripes were not being able to play HD videos or do SlingBox. Does anyone know if any of this is possible on this machine?

isnt 1.2GHz extra ordinarily slow… unless its quad core or something but i highly highly doubt that

AMD Athlon™ 64 L110 Single-Core Processor (1.2GHz, 800MHz FSB, 512KB L2 Cache) - Not too shabby of a processor for a netbook. IMHO. The Intel processors can be kind of a dog.
Oh, and I doubt you can get the free upgrade to win7. Most Refurbs don’t offer it, and new computers have to be bought after a certain date to qualify.

Sorry; only the more expensive Vista versions qualify.
Also, 1.2 GHz = pretty darn slow with Vista (even basic). My (new) 1.8 GHz Athlon was quite slow with Vista Home Basic (though since I upgraded it to XP Pro, it runs great).
I have installed Windows 7 on two of these. Both went off without any problems. They do infact run faster/smoother with Win7 as opposed to the pre-installed Vista. These are great machines. The only thing I really dont like is that the battery sticks out the back a bit but I can deal with that. I just ordered 2 of them tonight. This is a great price for a netbook with some extra power and 2GB of ram. I still cant find anything else with 2GB anywhere. If your on the fence… hop on off and bring one of these home for christmass.
But yes to run Windows 7
Windows® 7 System Requirements
* 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
* 1 GB RAM (32-bit) / 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
* 16 GB available disk space (32-bit) / 20 GB (64-bit)
* DirectX® 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver. http://www.gateway.com/windows7upgrade/requirements.php
This is a 6 cell battery, so definitely much more than the one on Woot, which has a 4 cell. Typically 6-cells, for netbooks, run 6-8 hours. This may use more power than an average netbook, so I’d guess in the ballpark of 5 hours.

No free Windows 7
For two reasons
Only new Gateway PC’s qualify for the upgrade. This one is refurbished.
Only Home Premium, Business, & Ultimate are eligible. This is Home Basic.
I’m guessing they mean LT3103u? Because LT3103 doesn’t seem to exist.
Got mine on Woot a couple weeks back, and I love it. I personally hate the 10.1" screens; they’re too small. It feels like a hybrid to me, a widescreen, slightly bigger and more powerful netbook. And a full keyboard helps a lot. Battery life is good. THis is my first laptop/netbook, but I’ll assume the indicator is supposed to fluctuate. Most of the time it’ll say around 5 to 6 hours at 100%.
I really like this hybrid. more powerful, bigger screen, and full keyboard, something that most netbooks don’t have, but the portability at 3 pounds that laptops don’t.
Problem is finding a 12"-13" sleeve for it.
EDIT: The woot forum for it on Nov 12, 2009
They have good tidbits on there, about Gateway being owned by Acer, the battery life with more cell batteries and other things.
an atom based cpu would need a hd decoder card
if u don’t want to upgrade you should look into getting that, but i’m not sure if the EEE supports it…

And the IGP’s video unit can assist with decoding common video formats, including MPEG2, MPEG4, and WMV9. Unfortunately, though, HD formats like H.264 and VC-1 aren’t on that list; only newer Radeons can handle them.
