Ffs woot, you are the devil at tempting when pairing this with the enclosure… it maybe apartment viable.
I would recommend the 3018-PRO vs this CNC machine (3018-MX3) for these reasons.
- Mach3 is Windows only. Free version has crazy limitations, and if you want to do anything other than demos you have to shell out $$$. Yes there is free Mach3 alternative software, but they lack. Grbl with 3018-PRO can be controlled via Web App, Raspberry Pi, Windows, Linux, or Mac.
- Endstops take up a few mm of your workspace and are not really needed. I usually never use them and will just zero at corner of material.
Thanks for the 411. I’ll sleep on it but hard tempted on a cnc machine in my apartment!
This works with the enclosure in my apartment. I stuck a soft foam sheet under the machine to help and it’s about as loud as a vacuum cleaner. You’ll want to be wary of dust from anything you’re cutting – don’t use in a bedroom. Passes in metal will not use any chip load calculations as you can only generate dust not chips. A 3x3 inch square profile cut can take a few hours if you’re trying to cut aluminum. And you’ll want to buy some blue loctite for the pre-assembled coupling between the vertical leadscrew and z-axis motor.
