What is it?

They donât actually use them.
That looks like it might be an Underwood. Maybe, maybe not. I used to type on one of those. Really.
H

I learned on them, didnât like them. Those IBM Selectric were the bomb.
Selectric was the top of the heap. However, its security was laughable because of the film ribbon.
FWIW I have several Selectric stories including how knowing how to use one prevented me from being hired during a future job interview.

I called them mimeograph machines might be a different name? This is more what Iâm thinking of with the purple tint and the lovely gassy smell.
Thank you. I never saw one except in the background in vintage movies and documentaries.
Our teachers always gave us mimeographed handouts but it was only boys who were permitted to do mimeographing (or anything else the New York City Board of Education considered âtechnicalâ). There was a small group of boys known as the AV squad (no one even told us it stood for audio-visual) and I have no idea how they were recruited. They did the mimeographing and they carried the equipment for strip films to classrooms when needed.
lol only boys. I am an old gal now, but even in elementary school I was probably a âtalented and giftedâ kid. I used to tutor younger kids and myself and another kid in my class would get âspecial assignmentsâ in playing the stock market, etc. Just being a âresponsible kidâ got you the ability to run the machines in the office when they were short handed, or your teacher needed something printed and they knew youâd done all your schoolwork. Anyway, good times!
