Greatest girl pop band of the eighties?
Who can forget how to walk like an Egyptian??

This almost isn’t fair.
The Go-Go’s.
But then there’s…

Kinda the Archies of the 80s Girl Glam Rock era.
They oughta do a “Last Reunion” tour…

Just another Manic Monday ![]()
The Bangles
My first cassette tape…pretty sure it was 1986. I can still remember when I’d watch their videos on MTV and then take my cassette player down to the basketball court to practice the dance routines. I miss the ‘80s.
I liked these other bands. However this honor has to go to the Go Gos.
BBC summed it up better than I could: The Go-Go’s made history in March 1982 when their brilliant debut album, Beauty and the Beat, climbed to the top of the Billboard 200 chart. They duly became the first all-female group who wrote their own songs and played their own instruments to score a number one album in the US. Nearly 40 years later, no other instrument-playing all-female band has managed to match their achievement.
Patti Smith

Who can forget the walk! Yet, I could only mentally hear the chorus. I forgot all the other lyrics. While googling the lyrics, I learned the song was inspired by how the Brits try to keep their balance on English Channel ferries. The writter thought the Brits look like the Egyptian paintings. I guess “Walk like an Egyptians” is slightly more catchy than “Balance like the British on Ferries.”

The Go - Go’s!!!
Does strutting and strumming count?
This took “70 takes” - Robert Palmer was a perfectionist but made a classic in 1985
I loved the Shaina Twain version of the Robert Palmer song. ![]()
Gotta love the 80’s Walk like an Egyptian song though. ![]()

A reunion tour of Jem would be truly outrageous!

Great voices, style, and the moves!
Also heard in Eternal Flame which was an ASCAP Pop Music Awards winner. They also won Best International Group
