Does anyone buy things from publisher’s clearing house?

We’re trying to sort through my grandma’s bills and… um. It’s a mess. She has a method but her mail is 99% magazine offers, publisher’s stuff, st. Jude’s, mail scams, etc. We’ve got the utility and insurance bills paid.

But there are stacks of this other stuff. I hate the magazine ones the most. They just tell you that you owe them money. There’s no date range, etc. I’m pretty sure they’re renewals that aren’t even needing to be renewed yet. I dunno. They went in the trash.

But she’s got this big itemized “consolidated” bill from publishers clearing house. I can’t tell if she owes the total amount or if it’s just a list of cheap China trash she’s bought.

Is it a bill for all the magazines maybe?

No. Those are separate.

It’s a bill for stuff. It’s bracelets, kids toys, flower bulbs, just stuff. She buys a shit ton of cookbooks too.

It’s a bigger problem than we suspected. She’s an adult and can spend her money however she feels fit. But there are stacks of this stuff in the back bedroom just taking up space. And it’s junky. We don’t know why she keeps getting it. There’s probably an actual ton of cookbooks alone.

I know she sends us all to the store for money orders. Tons of little money orders that I thought were going to pay for this stuff. Which is why I’m not understanding this “consolidated” bill.

I think my dad was going to find a phone number. I was curious if anyone else bought stuff from them and could explain how it works.

You can get as much as you want for free this month from the city. Probably because that freeze we had killed so many trees that normally survive the winter.

The worst thing, you buy from any of those crappy-junk places or magazine places, they sell you name to others and make even more money.
What I’d do is start to cancel as many as possible.
She’ll never ever get off of those lists & will get ‘offers’ for eternity, but trying to reduce what you can is pretty important.

I didn’t even realize you could buy anything but magazines. Sorry I cannot help. Maybe Dave is right.

Yeah that’s normal Ohio weather.

But congrats on the mulch. I don’t recommend filling in your cement pond with it though. Unless you’re making a really big fire pit.

Yeah. That’s what I thought too. Plus she’s a 90 year old lady. She is the exact person most of those scams target.

SCAMMERS- We all that the same opinion of them…

Yes. And she falls for them. We try. We all try so hard.

Anyone living in the Northern states: The Northern Lights may be visible tonight, they are expected to be KP-5 or 6 which is a fairly strong magnetic storm. I’ll be looking when I can.
They’d be towards the North…
The Sun is just about done with a ‘minimal phase’ which has little solar activity. They are thinking this may signal a rise in activity.
Good Luck.

Well that worked out better than I expected.

She might, they sell products too, my mom owed them money when she went to the nursing home. They didn’t get a penny because of her financial situation.
