I swear 9 out of 10 that do a sleep study are diagnosed with sleep apnea. When I was a kid it was tonsils. Everybody had their tonsils out. When my kids were young, it was ear tubes. One of my kids had three sets, the other one. Then it was/is attention span disorder. Now, it’s sleep apnea. It’s a fad.
made me think of this ice cream… I like it and I have not had it for a long time. I looked tonight at mejiers for it they did not have it in any brand.
and this brand?? I have never heard of. looks like edys packaging though.
mr. micks son took him today. rich said the hospital was very chaotic today. he had to go to 13th floor to get the j tube out at 1:30, he is sitting in the room at 2:00 calls the person that is suppose to take out, says heh I am suppose to be on the 6th floor at 2:00 she says I am on my way. she takes it out, he said the tube inside was like a foot long and that 1 last stich holding that thing was all grown in and hurt like a botch taking it out. soo he gets to the 6th floor for the balloon thing… they take him back to a room to wait, his procedure time is 3:00… they come in say there are no anesthesiologist available, like what?? they finally at 5:15 take him in the procedure room… he says its not a regular operating room but a Radiology room with the big exray table and such, push his bed up against the table. he thought the whole thing was just weird.
so after…
the doc says there was a huge food blockage in the esophagus cause it got too skinny in the one part.
Yup. I hate it. Difficult to sleep on my side.
I’ve got an app. It gives me a “score” each night. I get an excellent score in every category but “usage hours”. No surprise there. During the study I averaged 17 events per hour. Now it is between 1 and 3 how many times I stop breathing. I rarely snore now. Which is good for Oogie. Do I feel more rested? Nope. My sinuses are more open…until I remove the mask. Then I stuff up again.
My buddy seriously needed one. He got an hour into the study and they woke him. He got his mask asap. It was that bad. It has done wonders for him.
I’m sorry. The hospital is an ever morphing and chaotic beast and it’s always the best laid plans of mice and men. Glad they got the tube out. I’ve always enjoyed taking things out when I was a bedside nurse (means we’re making progress!).
Sorry to hear about the blockage. SHIT. Hopefully they get it all squared away.
It is eye opening when you get the results.
They’ll knock you out if they have to.
Medicine and technology have come a long way and so has treatment. Don’t think sleep apnea is a fad though. Yeah, 9 out of 10 who get the study are diagnosed but that’s because they were people already having problems sleeping and sought treatment. I’m sure if every person had a sleep study it the number wouldn’t be as high. And it’s not just apnea that’s measured. It’s all the twitches, kicks, brain stimuli that causes us not to get good rest because our body and brain have to work to make sure we’re breathing well enough (open airways) or at all (apnea).
I’ve had my machine for about a year now and I have noticed a difference. Or at least I did when I first started. Now I only notice a difference when I don’t wear it. I feel like absolute crap the next day. Your mileage will vary just like most treatment but the sleep study is the best and only way to get a better diagnosis.
That being said, it sucks going to do it. I sleep with the TV and fan on at home and I’m a side/belly sleeper. Had to sleep with everything off and on by back. At least the sleep center I went to had a sleep number bed and I could get it as comfortable as possible for me. I ended up only going an hour before they woke me up and got me fitted for a mask.
But now I don’t snore at night, have figured out how to sleep on my side with it and generally feel like I am getting better sleep, when I actually get sleep…
