MSO has been out for 17 years now and he is still waiting on his disability rating. He’s tried to file so many times and they always lost his paperwork. Now that they’ve digitized the process, he’s hopeful to finally get a rating.

Yes I’ve actually heard of Vets dying while waiting for their rating and healthcare. I think it has a lot to do with if you have a VA medical center near you or not as far as getting the healthcare.

As far as getting the rating goes, persistence is the key and at times even being annoying or a bother to them. Also keeping as much records as you can of what you send and when helps. For that reason I like to email correspondence, just so it’s a record that I did in fact send it and then I follow up by calling them and verifying that they got it. I’ve even gone as far as recording a phone calls when I’m talking to them so that once they acknowledge that they have it, I have that recorded and they can’t go back on it. Sometimes it pays to be paranoid, literally pays.
