I just bought one of these for about same price during Black Friday sale. Full retail px is $277 but easily found for $169…. Here was my review (and rice is a carb so I didn’t try with the rcarb reducing insert) Btw description is wrong it’s 8 cup cooked rice.
For years, I’ve made perfectly fine rice the old-fashioned way. I never had a reason to buy a ‘one trick pony’ machine to take up valuable kitchen space. The auto-off feature tempted me to take the plunge so I bought a very basic rice cooker (also sold on QVC) for about $20. The process was very straightforward and easy - the results not so great. No matter how quickly I got to the machine, the bottom of the rice was always a little crispy. This wasn’t ideal, but considering this was rice for my dogs’ food. If I was cooking rice for my family I always used the stove top method as we don’t like eating crispy rice, but I really liked the auto off feature and not having to babysit my stove.
I’ve been a huge fan of GreenPan for 15+ years so despite the $170 price tag I bought the 2 qt rice cooker. On my first attempt, I was going to follow the instructions exactly. I added my white rice, filled with water to the line on the inside of the pot, pushed the on/white rice/start buttons and crossed my fingers. I then went upstairs to work. Wouldn’t you know it turned out to be one of those days! EIGHT HOURS LATER I remembered the rice and went running downstairs, expecting an absolute catastrophe.
To my absolute astonishment the rice was, well, truly perfect - fluffy and ready-to-eat (no need to microwave heat) warm! This machine is 100% worth every single cent! GreenPan has done it again!
If you have the kitchen space and can’t afford I would highly recommend. If you don’t have the kitchen space or it’s a little out of your price range you may want to consider buying a bigger house and getting a second job! LOL
