Many of them don’t take a lot of skill, just persistence. Learning how to be efficient at them so they don’t take over your life isn’t hard either. 
(Also, autofill is your friend.)
By the way, a sweepstakes requires zero skill. 
A contest requires some sort of skill 
even if it’s just an apparently mindless question such as how much is 2 + 0. That’s simply to satisfy a legal requirement for certain jurisdictions.

Last year I won a $1,500 gift card
but the percentage ROI couldn’t be calculated because I didn’t spend anything, just entered my name and email address with autofill. Can’t multiply by zero to achieve any result other than zero so I’ll never know how much the profit was.

Won 2k on a $2 scratcher once. Was so excited, I ran right back into the gas station and told the clerk. Dont think he really wanted to hear about it…

The sweepstakes (and occasional contests) I enter are not always about the money.
It’s one way I learn about new products or receive prototype products or carefully designed, extremely limited edition branded promotional items (perhaps only 50 across the entire country) that I can keep, give as gifts, or sell (including to complete strangers who’ve offered me cold hard cash on the spot to buy something I was wearing).
I’ve even occasionally been offered the opportunity to be a product tester for esoteric merch simply because I’d shown an interest in the product. (Yes, for those who’ve been following the saga, that’s how I became a tester of pork rind snacks 
, FedEx’ed to my porch with cryptic, handwritten codes on the different flavors)
