Headphone preference?
In ear in noisy environment.
On ear for comfort (cooler temp).
Over ear in an airplane with noise cancellation and switchable ambient sound to hear annoucements.
Not HiFi, but feature rich. Was under $15 on Woot! It is still sold on Amazon (ignore pro grade
)
Over ear blocks out the surrounding noise better, doesn’t hurt my ear cartilage and doubles as ear muffs during the cold wintertime

I preferred no headphones and 7.1 surround sound. Otherwise I have bone-conductive for outdoor exercise, over-ear for quality, and in-ear for general listening, especially with a chance I will fall asleep ( versus falling asleep with over-ear can wake me up or leave painful ears).

In-ear for portability and noise cancellation. Over ear for really good noise cancellation.

Find them all generally uncomfortable.
for some reason headphones dont fit me well

Active Noise Cancelling is best Over the Ear

But can become uncomfortably hot in 30 min if not in cold weather.
I can’t wear any kind for a long period of time but would prefer a non bulky over ear.
I have ear buds for short time frame use. Intrigued by the over ear cuff ones.
Yet again my life doesn’t fit in little boxes.
I can do headphones; I simply choose not to anymore.
Back when I did use them, I preferred both at once.

You forgot my go to listening device - BONE CONDUCTING. If you need situational awareness, it is difficult to beat bone conducting headphones.
Over Ear for music, bone conducive for speech.
Wireless earbuds are the only ones I can stand. Single ear while driving, both ears at the gym.

Bone conduction!
Over ear for home music listening. Bone-conducting for walking/cycling to audiobooks and podcasts.
I have a super power - I wear bilateral behind the ear hearing aides, therefore, I don’t need no stickin’ headphones cause my hearing aids connect via Bluetooth!! Bahahaha
