Confused here… The description states it can be mounted on the ceiling but the NOTE states it can’t be mounted on a ceiling. Does anyone have further information on which is true?

It can be mounted to the wall with the included bracket. The note only pertains to ceiling mounting. “Will not mount on ceiling or turn on unless black box is mounted vertical”. Note the “unless” part. Black box just needs to be vertical for it to be mounted to the ceiling.
Apparently, the manufacturer also sells a ceiling-mount bracket, if you can’t or don’t want to adapt the provided bracket to your situation.
