Why do the shirts nowadays always have to explain the pun? It completely ruins it. God, I would kill for this shirt without the text. It’s so much more fun when people get the joke. Explaining jokes ruins jokes. That’s like, the #1 rule of jokes.
Saying “hengehog” isn’t explaining the joke, it’s the punchline. Explaining the joke would be “there’s a tiny animal called a hedgehog, and a place in England called Stonehenge. Henge and hedge sound alike, so I drew Stonehenge on a hedgehog to make this funny creature.”
I guess that’s fair. I chose my words poorly. What I mean is that by stating the joke, the joy of the shirt is removed for me. I love the pun shirts of old where the person seeing the shirt has to look, think for a second, then you get to see their eyes light up as they say “Hengehog!!! I get it!” Which is so much fun! Now, they see the shirt, immediately understand it’s a hengehog, and it’s way less satisfying. The joy of these shirts is that they can be visual jokes. Now they’re visual jokes with accompanying text to make sure every person in the world can immediately understand the visual joke with no thought required.
I agree
