Like I’m gonna wear a RED Star Trek shirt?? C’mon, I still have a few good years left in me.
Exactly right! ![]()
We have officially run out of sensible mashups. Trekkies and Tamales don’t sound at all alike other than both starting with T. Nice art but this is a very silly shirt.
Oh, that’s the reference? I haven’t even thought of Hot Tamales in years, maybe decades.
Don’t like this one? Be sure to vote in the Derby to help us pick future winners!
Last week’s theme was candy labels, this week is monsters!
“Captain, I vaguely sense hotness. I can’t quite place its source.”
As a counter argument, Tasha had a yellow uniform, and we all know it didn’t go well for her!
Picard wore red and had a philisophical debate with the oil slick. He survived.

I do enjoy the cat shirt derbies!
EXACTLY what I was thinking. BAD color choice despite the product spoof.
They switched up colors in TNG. Red became “command,” gold became “operations” iirc.
I just watched a TOS S2 episode with a costume glitch I never noticed on VHS or DVD. Wardrobe sewed an Operations/Engineering emblem on McCoy’s blue tunic. Oopsie.
But it’s a RED SHIRT. Wear it and roll D20.
As a kid, I guess I never quite figured out what the shirt colors actually meant, since the roles they represented were so broad. Switching the colors up was also confusing. I didn’t know why Kirk wore yellow when Picard wore red, and why sometimes crew members went from red to yellow (Geordi).
This finally cleared it up for me just now.

A clue in TOS is that the “Engineering” crewman badge had a stylized gear icon like a contemporary Machinists Mate rating badge in the naval services. In the US naval services, the engineering badges like Fireman, MK, are red.
Some of the TOS production staff were veterans and knew these details instinctively. In one episode, Scotty tells the Captain, “Special space detail set” before they “cast off” out of orbit. I never noticed until I served.
