AMD has been around for a while. They survived the heat from Intel over the years when others, such as Cyrix failed. I remember being anti INTEL and Microsoft back in the early/mid 90’s and having a Cryix 486sx with DRDos and a “copy” of windows for workgroups on 30+ 720k disks and trying to decide if I liked Netscape or Mosaic better. I liked GEOWorks that was on a little Fujitsu notebook. AMD has weathered the storms and the likes of IBM’s OS2, Geoworks, Cyrix and a host of others are long gone.
Also, 1366 x 768 is not HD, unless HD is something other than high definition (horrible description, maybe). Wow woot…for a $300+ item, what is going on here?
My work computer is an EliteBook with this same processor. It may not be a bad CPU, but my experience with it has been less than stellar. The fans are perpetually running at 50% or higher and the CPU puts out a prodigious amount of heat even under moderate workloads. Batter life is also terrible, although I can’t blame that entirely on the CPU as the battery in this laptop is pretty weak. I have colleagues with the same model laptop but equipped with an i5 without any of the heat and battery life issues. I’m a huge fan of AMD and I hope their latest CPUs will finally offer some real competition for Intel, but I would suggest staying way from this one.
