A few great reviews (4.7 out of 5.0) over at The O

I purchased two very similar models with the same CPU and HDD, minus the Touchscreen and mine had Windows 7 Pro.

And I was very pleased, they were basically, brand new. After uninstalling the bloated McAfee, and using msconfig.exe to stop all unnecessary processes at Start-up, it is a very decent budget laptop.

The CPU is nothing to brag about but is decent.

One minor drawback is the WiFi chipset, it is only a single channel 2.4GHz, and cannot exceed downloads greater than 50Mbps for some strange reason.
Atheros AR9485 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter, specs say it is 150Mbps,
EDIT: I figured out a workaround, Disable (uncheck) Power Management in the Device Manager > Network Adapter, and set your router to Ch 11, and 40MHz only. You should not have to jump through these hoops though.

The biggest surprise was how decent the sound was, compared to a budget Toshiba laptop.

What is the battery life on one full charge?

Battery is small and only a 3-cell
Depends on a lot of different usage factors, but 1-4 hours, CPU usage, Video and screen brightness, are the biggest variables.

Question: If I do overnight shipping. Will it be delivered before the end of next week?
I was confused by the statement, “will ship in 3-5 business days”. Does it mean that it ships out in 3-5, or is delivered in 3-5.

Please give me feedback before pulling the plug. My thought is that this looks like a perfect little (and inexpensive) computer for my daughter to attend online high school. Install the necessary Office Apps (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and she should be good to go.
Am I missing something?

Overnight shipping is not available for this item. This computer is shipping directly from our vendor and will ship out in 3-5 business days. Then allow time for transit.

This would be just fine on the very basic end of things. However, especially if your daughter will be doing multiple things at once (like watching a video and doing online homework), you will probably want another screen. This computer has an HDMI output, so if you had another monitor or TV that your daughter could use, she would likely be much more productive.

If not, you can get a basic 1080p monitor on Woot or elsewhere for around $70-$80. Just make sure it has HDMI input.

Can the wifi be upgraded to AC or it it not modular and actually soldered onto a board or something?

I have a nephew starting college, looking for an affordable laptop. He needs Word though. Is MS Word installed on this?

No. If it did it would likely be a teaser demo anyway.

Does he really need Word? If so, look for discounts on educational versions. If not, there are plenty of good alternatives to be had.

The WiFi is internal and cannot be upgraded.

But you can always use an USB AC WiFi Adapter if that is what you want.

I got this and either the hard drive or fan is making a weird sound. Has anyone had this problem? HP Support is not helping much either.
