Time to learn all about the processor
Plenty unhappy buyers at the mothership. FYI, this review from Toplaptops Review:
The WOOT specs says it supports up to 8 GB…wondering which is correct now
[MOD: Updated our specs. Thanks for the catch.]
Can’t vouch for it, but here’s a bit of Amazon-Woot incest: (the word “national” in link hints it is)
I have had two HP laptops, bought a few years apart. I’ll never buy another HP laptop. In both cases, the hinges broke. HP knows there is a problem with the design, but hasn’t changed it and wants to charge $200 to fix it. No thanks. Just bought a Dell.
Good catch. We’ve updated the specs to 4GB max.
Thanks for that! I was wondering. If it were upgradable to 8 GB and if the drive could be upgraded to 1 Tb, then I would totally go for this for my college-aged son. Sounds like it might be better as a laptop for his grandmother, who is still squeezing every slow byte out of a 6 year old HP.
ok well…memory not upgradeable then no deal for me…why would HP not allow for a memory upgrade - makes no sense
Will a memory upgrade matter much with such a slow processor?
My first work laptop was an HP with an AMD processor. That thing sucked. It’s sitting in my closet now in a case, rotting. I just can’t do an HP and AMD combo and I’m not sure I’m sold on either by themselves.
Purchased this refurb. Got the product very quickly. Booted it and it was a DOG. Very slow at everything. Looked at the performance and the disk IO was spiked. I replaced the hard drive with a 256 gig SSD and it runs great now. Not sure what was causing the problem out of the box, but it runs great now.
Bought this for my daughter for school and thought it would be a good PC. After a month it started getting real slow, and I tried to get it speeded up again. Didn’t run any diagnostics then but should have. Then in mid-February - just days out of warranty - the hard drive died completely.
Woot should do more to check on these refurb deals. HP should do more to make sure they really are refurbishing and not just repairing one problem leaving another one waiting to strike.
I’m just hoping my Amex Warranty Assurance will kick in; then it will still be in warranty.
