I am almost ready to pull the trigger on this. I was burned once on a reconditioned tablet that gave out on day 91 of a 90 day warranty. Is the HP reconditioning worth rolling the dice?
I got two of these and they looked like new when I got them, both have been working fine for 4 months now.
I bought one in February with a Ryzen 5 CPU. I upgraded the memory and storage and it’s a great laptop. Don’t worry about the factory refurbs. Apparently they had a bad batch of hinges and a LOT of these laptops using the same case had to be refurbished. Look at it this way: you’re saving money and the problem has already been fixed. Always open the lid from the center to spread out the strain on the hinges.
I got this laptop a couple months ago on Woot. Except it had a 1TB HDD and Windows 10. I did the upgrade to Windows 11 and planned to install an NVME drive but haven’t found the need to yet. And mine appeared to be new and blemish free. It’s been great so far.
Hows is the resolution, does it appear pixelated? It has low resolution for such a big screen.
I’m wondering about the resolution also. My current 17 inch screen has a resolution of 1920 x 1080. One reason I like the big screen is to edit photos and to create vector graphics. Is the lower resolution a big drop-off from what I have now? It seems like nowadays, the industry standard is for full HD laptops (like my current 1920 x 1800), and they far outnumber the HD+ models (like the 1600 x 900 being offered here).
Does it have a fan? If so, how loud? I want it for audio recording.
Bought one very similar to this one a couple months back. The difference was mine came with a 256 gig SSD and a 1TB HDD. I have the OS and programs I use most on SSD and all documents, videos and music, etc on the HDD. Very easy to set up in Settings>Storage. The computer boots to Windows 11 in 10 seconds and is fast enough for me.
The only complaint I had was the letters and symbols are difficult to see in daylight with the back lit keyboard. Solved that problem by getting a very thin silicone keyboard overlay in black off Amazon for $7.
Did you buy RAM from HP? Is there an easy way to know what to get, I’m not afraid to open up the case and swap chips but it’s been a long time since I understood the products.
I’ve said it here before: I hate the trend of laptop keyboards that sacrifice readability in favor of style.
