The fingerprint scanner is handy not just for logging into Windows but for Web sites.

This is a solid laptop. I have this at work and
haven’t had any issues.

Anyone know how much drive space is free/available as configured?

Review specs don’t match item description if I’m not mistaken.

I’m IT at a VA facility and we started receiving these about a year ago. About 15% of them have had to go back for failed hard drives, but otherwise they have been solid.

And FTR, ours did not come with the SSD drives.

8470P comes in like 21 different configurations (like model subtypes). These range from plain Jane to the I7’s with the 1600x900 screen (which is still subpar in my book). Usually the reviews will pick one of the higher-end configurations of the model to review.

This is a 3rd Gen I5, currently (Nov. 2015) we are on Gen 6, and it only has 32 processor memory.
Check you software, etc… to work with this…
be careful!

This is NOT a 32-bit processor. Intel has been making 64-bit processors since 2004. The windows 7 in this laptop is 64 bit. Windows has backwards compatibility with all 32-bit programs.

Note per the spec no bluetooth, webcam, or mic. Also the battery life/remaining capacity on these is highly variable, having purchased and used a couple, so be aware that you may need to replace that part in the near future.

With the closest comparison I could find on Newegg, that model had a I5 520m and a 3 cell battery. This looks to be a much better buy.

This is my work laptop, and I hate it. Runs super hot, locks up a bunch, can’t handle Office 2013…I’ve been trying, unsuccessfully, to get them to upgrade me for months.

I’d say that I just have a bad unit, but others with the same model around the office have the same issues.

Windows 7? Is there any reason why, upon purchasing one of these, I could NOT immediately upgrade to W10?

Of course you can, woot has even written up a description of how this would work for you.

I have an 8470W for work… faster processor but similar otherwise. It is a nice machine.

OMG! THis is a great little I5 processor and will more than handle what you are doing. This is the box that HP employees were issued 2 or 3 years ago and sold for over $1800 then. the SSD itself is almost worth $100 and I think you can add a second if you take out the CD. This is a great deal if you need a solid semi light weight laptop.

Does it really have an RJ-11 port for dialup? (I’m in an isolated area where satellite can fail and leave me with only dialup connection sometimes.)

Yes it does.
