Bought one for a VR base. Going to ditch the Gfx card and get a GTX 10* something

Yea, right. I use the search box all the time because so few preferences are located where they used to be. And I could be considered an “expert”, with over 20 years in Information Technology.

This would make a nice Linux box.

Create a dual boot machine by installing Linux. Downsize, don’t delete, the Windows partition (you might want it for something).

This looks like it could be converted into a gaming machine just with a new Gfx card. Is that a full size tower or something smaller? It would be good to know if the new card fits in the box. Also, with a 300W power supply, would you need to upgrade to support the upgraded card?

would be better to swap it out for a 500watt one if you plan on getting a 970/980/1070/1080. you might be able to just squeak by on 300watts with those components + a 1070 or 970, but i wouldn’t trust an oem psu to handle it well. 500watt minimum to be safe.

if you’re planning on adding a 980 ti or a radeon r9 380x/390/390x/fury etc, aim higher on the psu. in the 600-800watt range. the new polaris rx cards, the rx 480 and 460 look to be far more power efficient than the 3xx r9’s, but i cant say for sure what psu would be good.
