Overall, specs on this seem to be pretty good, but not sure about the price. I’m not looking to purchase, but curious what others think about this price for a refurbished unit.

I purchased this system new a few months ago but with i7 from HP. It’s pretty nice for the price. Mine came with 3070ti is 3 fan model and barely fits. Front 3.5" hdd mount is riveted to case and 3070ti is nearly touching it. 800w power supply is a cooler master 80 plus gold. Power supply fan is loudest fan in case at idle. Probably because it’s 1/2 "from metal bottom of case. Only half of PS fan has holes in bottom of case to pull air. Motherboard is a stripper model and only has 3 internal storage ports. 2 m.2 nvme pciex4. I tested with Samsung evo plus 970 and get advertised speeds. Only 1 sata port for hdd even though there are two mountings for hard drives. Only one pcie x16 slot that’s it. CPU-z says motherboard is pcie 5.0. Small tower cpu cooler and I get 20400 cinebench r23 stock win11. Extremely bare bone motherboard but uses standard components so you could put a different board in or swap to another case. This case looks pretty damn good for a prebuilt.

Only issue I’ve had is HP built in some severe throttling for cpu. Several times I can only get 12k or 15k on cinebench because the cpu throttles to 4ghz max within the first minute. It is not due to heat, even tried a better cooler and still throttles. Must be due to a built in power limit for VRM’s that do not have a heatsink. Only power plan is balanced in Win11.

That being said, playing MSFS with HP Reverb G2 VR headset is amazing and runs without any issues or throttleing.

I bought the HP model TE02-0042 which is pretty much the same computer but with the 12th generation I9 for $1399.00 on Amazon brand new. It’s going for $1,449.00 currently.

Things to keep in mind on this:

  1. this is a 12700, not a K sku which means no overclocking.
  2. HP/Dell motherboards are proprietary crap
  3. I see no specs on the PSU which is also likely underpowered and proprietary
  4. That Case!!! NO Airflow!

What cpu cooler came with the i9? My i7 is the tall 4 heat pipe air cooler 92mm fan

I bought this at Micro Center in Denver area in January for $1400 new. Upgraded with another 16GB 3200 ram (Gskill), a 2TB WD 2280 3 4 SSD that goes under the Graphics Card which has a screw holding a plastic cover which fits on the SSD screw hole (remove the cover) Also bought a 4TB WD 2.5 SSD. You don’t need a 3.5 to 2.5 converter, but you will need 4 screws for a 2.5 drive, but no screws needed for a 3.5 HDD. It runs very cool & whisper quiet under load. I was looking at this very CPU & GPU as I was going for a high performance but low TDP wattage output. Overclocking doesn’t mean much for me anymore as these CPU & GPU nowadays are very fast. It does take 30sec to load to ESET and that has to do with the BIOS uEFI functionality taking half of the time. The original 2280 SSD is 3 4 Nand type and is very fast. PSU is 800 gold. GPU is nVidia brand. All my upgrading and getting 3yr ESET came to a little over 2 thousand after tax. Alot of the time, the part that goes bad according to reviews is the GPU (it’s not a HP problem, but a nVidia one). This is likely what was refurbed with a working GPU.

HP has a very comprehensive YouTube video on performing your own hardware upgrades or repairs for this model. Just go to YouTube and search HP ENVY TEO2-0030 or if WOOT allows it select this link
