How upgradable is this? Could one easily replace the hard drive with an ssd?

Here is a rather useful and in-depth customer review of the HP Envy x360 laptop with AMD FX-9800p processor.

Is this good enough for lightroom and photoshop?

I don’t know how upgrade able it is overall, but the limit of what looks to be 8 gigs of RAM in one DIMM slot (which I guess means it’s also single channel despite the chip being dual channel capable) is really bad. I understand the Intel equipped version, which must rank hupigher and cost more, comes with 2 slots and with an M.2 space for an SSD.

I think may have to wait for the new AMD CPU platform before the manufacturers build anything compelling.

While I don’t have a ton of experience with that software, I’d say probably not. They’re pretty resource intensive and this machine seems pretty limited. The processor isn’t all that powerful and it seems that the RAM can’t be upgraded. I’d wait for something else with a little more oomph.

Definitely not for Photoshop, Lightroom or any intensive graphics. It can “do” them but will cost you days and weeks in lost productivity over the life of it. Also, I have a higher HP Envy bought from Woot and the HP’s have a nasty Wi-Fi issue with Win 10 that nobody has fixed yet, so I have to use Ethernet or downgrade to 8.1 and start over…it’s ridiculous. I like the Envy line a lot but the Wi-Fi issue is a huge problem and deal breaker imo.

Ah, yes, Mustangs!

Thanks for that link. Super informative. I’ve read through that entire thread, plus did some other research.

tl;dr

  • RAM configuration is gimped in hardware. It is only single channel (physically only one RAM slot) and the CPU/BIOS limits speeds to 1866MHz.
  • May not be able to get both SSD + HDD at same time (versus ordering it from HP with both preinstalled). Either the solder pad for the m.2 SSD is not populated, or it requires an optional bracket. Still not 100% sure.
  • Keyboard and touchpad are as lousy as all the other budget offerings.
  • Screen is 1920x1080 resolution and decent all around viewing angles, so I consider this a plus.
  • Games will play better than affordable Intel graphics. Intel’s Iris Pro will be better, but at a huge cost increase.
  • Battery life appears decent for merely having a 4 cell.

Hello, can you send it to San Juan of Puerto Rico?, thnaks.

Currently, we only ship to the 48 contiguous states.

Thanks digante and ramespride!
