No SSD but otherwise looks decent. $899 for “certified refurbished” on the mother ship. A seller on ebay currently has one new for $1480, which seems ridiculously high.
Other reviews online mention that it’s hard to get at the memory or the hard drive for upgrades because removing the bottom panel is a pain.
Can someone tell me if the display surface is matte or shiny? Im not a fan of high gloss displays on a laptop
Is there a second drive bay or any other way to add an SSD?
Maybe? May not be easy though.
I finally purchased a laptop that ONLY has a SSD. Huge difference, starts MUCH faster. I will never go back to a spinning drive on a computer.
Spinning devices go back to Edison cylinders. As the capacity increases, spinners will be mostly for servers and huge backups.
My first 550 MB (not GB) A/V compatible hard drive for digital audio recording was $999. Makes these prices look like peanuts.
Heck, if I had to, I could record on a Kindle Fire refurb!
These laptops keep popping up on here. Do they fail that often that they have such a high surplus of factory reconditioned OMEN’s?
I would be careful with this laptop. I purchased one the last time it was on Woot and the keyboard is straight trash. My backspace key was broken out of the box.
IIRC correctly this model should have an empty m.2 slot. At least mine with the 1050 TI did.
I bought the one with the 1050ti and SSD already installed from Best Buy not to long ago. I’m pretty sure that the guts of all of these are the same, and this one should have the m2 slot. According the q&a page at best buy it does have the slot. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/questions/hp-omen-15-6-laptop-intel-core-i7-8gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1050-1tb-hdd-onyx-black-twinkle-black/5712737
I’m not a big HP fan, but this is worth it IMHO. I’d do a wipe of Windows 10 after I got it though to remove all the HP crapware. And, get an SSD for inside. I believe you can run SSD plus the original HD in this machine. I know you can in Dell’s 15.6" gaming laptop, so I’d expect this to be the same. And changing the HD/SSD drives is a piece of cake in most gaming laptops.
Here’s a video of the previous year’s version doing an HD upgrade. I’m sure it’s close to this. Notice he kept both the original spinning drive and added an SSD drive.
Will this be decent for photoshop and lightroom?
What’s the main difference between this and https://computers.woot.com/offers/hp-omen-15-6-fhd-intel-i7-gtx1050-gaming-laptop
Other than graphics and HD size…
This is the 2016 model, I believe. David Lee had a nice review of it…
