CPU Benchmark

Solid reviews )4.1 out of 5.0) over at bestbuy.com and let’s learn all about the processor

[MOD: BestBuy is a different configuration. Ours has more memory and hard drive storage.]

I’m thinking this looks like a good laptop, the link from Conan for bestbuy reviews is dead. Anyone have any personal experience?

[MOD: Link is working for me.]

Link worked for me, but link shows 4GB RAM and 750GB HD. I bought the similar HP Pavilion 17-E183NR on woot last time (6 weeks ago and $60 more); similar but has AMD10 processor, and this is A8. My kids use A6 processor equipped laptops, which can handle Skyrim at low settings.
My Pavilion works well for school 99% and lighter gaming (have only tried Neverwinter Nights 1 so far). Office 2012 installed, works fine. I have had maybe 4~6 random freezes, where I can either shut off or wait 3~10 minutes to resolve. Research suggests this is a Windows 8 issue; turning off automatic App updating and DISM fixes; waiting to see how this works out. I may try a clean install of windows 8 later, if this does not work. HP loads these up with lots of crap trialware. I would suggest clean install or using something like Revo uninstaller to clean what you don’t need.
Good laptop for the price, I’ve dropped it once already on day 2 or 3 from desk height; cracked the outside corner of the cover (luckily, screen did not crack) and still works fine.

What is the model number?

And is the 8GB of RAM it comes with the maximum amount of RAM or can it be expanded to 16GB?

I bought a similar Pavilion a few weeks ago and I’ll warn you: The touchpad and clickpads are super loud, plus no scroll function. This one is a few steps down from what I bought.

I bought a similar 15.6 Pavillion on Woot about a month ago and scroll works fine and no issues with touchpad.

Specs say:
(2 memory slots, user accessible)

So it should have 1 free memory slot

For what it’s worth, I bought the 17" A10-5750 version of this last week and really like it, was surprised to receive it on Wednesday.

A couple of the negative comments I remember last week were regarding the weight and keyboard. It feels lighter and easier to carry than my 15" Dell Vostro monstrosity it’s replacing, and I have no complaints over the keyboard, so those are all subjective comments anyway. The laptop itself could have passed for new and I haven’t had anything to concern me with it being a refurb.

I know it’s not an exact comparison since you’d be getting the less powerful processor, but reasonable enough for the price difference.

according to the spec tab:

so it looks like one slot is free for another 8gb ddr3l, and when I looked, they were around $60 and up

OK, I’m a slow typer, already answered. But yes, my keyboard and buttons are a little loud, however, I do have scroll function on the touchpad. Use two fingers slightly apart, and move up, down, sideways

like dhunter01, it looked new, until I dropped it. Shiney finish, so it does pick up fingerprints

Thank you for your comments. Glad the link works for others, I just got a best buy error on my phone.

Not sure if my husband will be okay with Skyrim on low settings, but seems like a decent deal!

We often don’t have model numbers for factory reconditioned or refurbished computers because the lot is a mix of models. You should concentrate on our specs as listed.

Does anyone know if this laptop has an empty bay for a second hard drive?

If best buy is selling it for the same price for a brand new version, this isn’t much of a deal then, is it? Unless I’m missing something here, seems silly.

Best Buy one has some differences in hardware (less ram, smaller hard drive)…but not a lot different for the same price and new.

I started looking at it further. The Best Buy model says the max RAM it supports is 8 GB. So now I want to know what the max that these Woot models support? If its 8 then its already at the max even though there is an open slot…

So no touchscreen, right?

The max memory supported on these models is 8GB.
