I have had this little guy for more than 5 years now and really like it. I got it with 4GB RAM and upgraded it to 8GB.

Unfortunately, it now is a bit slow for me and for a couple of the programs I use on a regular basis.

And, my battery unfortunately is now non-responsive (as of a couple of months ago), so I can only use it plugged in unless I buy a new battery.

I will add that I had trouble with the supplied power cord AND the replacement cords I bought. I was careful with them, but I had multiple power cables fail over the years, including, I believe, 2 HP branded cables/supplies. Not sure why… again, I was gentle with them.

However, that said, I still really like the laptop and am very happy with the 5 good years I got with it (and I may wipe it and give it to my wife, who pretty much only needs a computer for browsing and perhaps very occasional document editing). I also like the HP pen I got to use with it - I didn’t use it that often, but it was quite nice to have sometimes.

If she doesn’t need anything Windows-specific, you might see a speed increase just by switching to a light Linux distro. Linux isn’t for everyone but for such a simple use case it can be pretty good. My Surface Go 2 is about the same performance as this machine, and it feels twice as fast with Ubuntu Linux installed (Ubuntu isn’t my first choice but it’s by far the best for a touchscreen computer, and it fully supports all of the quirky hardware in my Surface).

You can boot Ubuntu Linux from a USB drive and play with it to make sure it works well for your needs, and if you decide to fully commit it’s easy to install from there.
