I would love to try my hand at designing a shirt for a Derby in the near future but........

…the phrase “we don’t take taxes out” scares the bejesus out of me. You see me and the IRS have always had a wonderful relationship together here in Wisconsin and I would hate to have to change our status to “it’s complicated” - lol. But seriously, how ugly does it get when it comes to filing taxes in the beginning of the year if someone does manage to have their design chosen for sale? Are we talking stub your big toe on the coffee table in the middle of the night - pain or bamboo shoots under the fingernails while having your eyelids taped opened and being tied to a chair in front of a tv that shows Barney the Dinosaur episodes 24/7 commercial free - pain - haha.

Thanks

You’re provided with a 1099 at the end of the year, so no worries.

Your descriptions of pain put the biggest grin on my face..! Thank you… I need all the humor I can get right now.

If you can translate your sense of humor onto tee shirts, you’ll get prints, imo. Good luck!

This is correct, and makes filing taxes much easier, otherwise you can use the “Direct Deposit” from woot to calculate your income. If I am not mistaken, they are only required to be given out if you reach a certain income threshold (I want to say it’s $600 USD).

It’s treated as contractor work, and there are lots of resources online for how to calculate and withhold taxes easily with 1099 income.

LOL - I’m glad I was able to put a grin on your face :).

Thanks Jennzilla and ILoveEwe! Glad to hear it’s not nearly as bad as I thought :).

MY wife always freaks at tax time. Of course you have to pay taxes on it. WE still walk away with more money than if I hadn’t sold any shirts. It just seems like a lot when it all is taken out at once.
If we were smart we would take out the “taxes” at the time of payment, put it into a separate account and then have it ready at tax time.
But do we do that? Naaaa.

Same. I always forget about it until tax time. I do love spending my shirt money though.

We pay quarterly. It helps when April rolls around.
