Not recommended. Purchased as backup for my wife’s EV, the dongle with the battery terminal clamps is non-functional (green light never illuminates). She already tossed the box, so I’m stuck with a jump starter that doesn’t jump. Suggest going with a different brand.
I have an extra one in the garage, to jump my generator when I forget to charge IT’S battery.
I am not a mechanic but I don’t think you can use this to jump start an electric vehicle. Electric vehicles need to be charged, there is no way to get around waiting for your EV battery to charge up.
Electric vehicles have both a 12v battery and a high voltage battery, the latter which provides motive power. The 12v battery powers the electronics in the vehicle and is normally kept charged from the high voltage battery by the vehicle’s charge control unit. If the 12v battery is nearing end of life it may discharge sufficiently while the vehicle is parked such that the vehicle declines to power up; this requires a jump of the 12v battery to get the vehicle operational again. It certainly seems odd, but that’s the reality of EVs.
