144 divided by 20% = 28.8. So 144 - 29 = 115.
Mic drop :sunglasses:

X + X(.2) = 144
X(1+.2) = 144
X(1.2) = 144
X = 144/1.2
X = 120

It’s not 115

You don’t find 20% of 144 you find what number that when added 20% of the original number equals 144. Also known as X+.2X=144. When you do the math you get 120. 120+24 (20 percent of 120) =144

10 percent of 120 is easy. Move the decimal and you get 12. Double it and you get 24. So add 24 to 120 and you get 144. So the answer is 120.

20% more than, is 100%+20%. 120% is 1.2 and 144 divided by 1.2 is the answer.

On day one 144 were sold.
On the second day 20% less were sold.
So day 2 is 80% of day 1.
Therefore 144 x .80 = X
X = 115.2

I bet the .2 of a Bidet ended up in a BOC.

Holy moley…

X × (1+20%) = 144
X × 1.2 = 144
X = 144 ÷ 1.2
X = 120

Nice try. See the post above yours

On the first day 1.2X were sold, on the second day X were sold
So, the total sold were 2.2X
We know how many were sold on day one = 144
The formula is total sold [2.2X] is equal to amount sold on day one [144] plus amount sold on day two [ X ]
2.2X = 144 + X
2.2X - X = 144
1.2X = 144
X = 144 / 1.2
= 120
