Very good chance I’ll pick this up. Decent price on the CPU. The locked version (no K) comes with a fan, so saves $20 or $30 over the K version, and the motherboard I plan to get doesn’t overclock anyways.
12th Gen avoids the rare flaw with 13th and 14th that chips would overheat and do irreversible damage to themselves. And hopefully good enough anyways.
Ok, I did end up ordering it. So, I can wait till it arrives to find out, but can anyone at Woot! tell me whether this will, in fact, include the stock cooler? I have seen that the retail box of the locked i7’s come with a cooler, but it isn’t listed in the “In the box” section in the Specs here.
One of the reviews on Amazon’s product page for this products ASIN mentions “Super processor, very powerful, does not heat up even with the included Intel fan.”
So if these are in fact coming from that same Amazon inventory, it sounds like it does.
Edit: Found this in a review as well: “I have had this CPU for a few weeks now, I am impressed with its performance. However, it definitely needs a a better cooler. The one provided in the box is not sufficient even for single-threaded workloads.”
Mine arrived today, it is the retail box with the stock fan. I expected a tube of thermal paste but there’s just some already stuck on the cooler.
The rest of the parts are arriving later this week, so can’t test it yet…
