I’d rather just buy a $20 enclosure and then use my own harddrive. Cheaper and I can swap out the drives whenever I want.

Not to pleased with this one. You can get so much more space for just a pinch more money as far as externals go if you shop around/rebates.

Wooted. Great for portable backups 'stead of all those DVDs…

not a great gig to dollar ratio, but for fast transfer and portability, it’s like haveing a 20gig flash drive…

Can you say portable Gaming drive? hmmm. WOOT!

what is 1.8 in measuring? platter diameter?

capacity too small for the $$$

Good night w00t

perfect to stash a little, ahem, “video collection” on and keep in one’s sock drawer

isnt that what everyones 4TB offsite server is for?

I went ahead and snagged one. Been shopping around for a 2GB Flash drive, so this will really meet my needs.
The Black Case was the seller for me!

Nah, I’d need at least a 700 Terabyte model to keep my video collection. Of course, all the videos I have are, um, educational…

I’ve used this model before. It was really noisy, producing a high pitched whine that beats my grandma’s poodle. So much so that I wanted to chuck it out the window, except that it didn’t belong to me. Don’t know if this is a normal annoyance with this device, but I would not want to use one frequently.

Might be nice if it shows up as another drive, so I can play mp3’s and videos, but not at all clear it does that.

Anyone know if there is a way to use this for transferring files from my digital camera (canon rebel XT) to the harddrive in the field? If so, I think this’ll fit into my camera bag perfectly.

The best thing about these small drives is that you don’t need a power adapter. Just the USB cable.

FYI:

Dimensions: 1×3x4.75-inches

That’s a lot of what you’re paying for, also the fact that it probably is powered by USB, since there is no mention of power cord/adapter. 20 gigs is pretty nice for such a portable device.

Only if the camera can act as a host.

The cheapest price I found via Froogle was $58.99 from Computer Geeks but when you visit their website it is actually on clearance for $53.99. Ground shipping was $7 so it would be $61 total from Computer Geeks compared to Woot’s total price of $50.

This is a savings of $11 which is not too bad but not quite exciting enough to create a true Woot frenzy. Of course many of us just shelled out $20-$30 or more on external IDE enclosures and another $50 or more on 250 GB drives so we have nearly 13 times as much storage in a package which is still easily portable. Only downfall of the IDE solution is you need to tote a separate power supply around but I am willing to do that for the extra space.

I would REALLY reccomend a photo or newer ipod with the camera attachment for this

You can get a 60gb ipod photo for $279 refurb from apple, buy the $30 or so camera attachment, and then have 60gb of external space in the field. It’s probably the best option.

I have the 30 gig and the camera connector - two problems. 1) it wastes ridiculous amount of battery power. 2) cost - this is the perfect price I’d pay for what I need. I was hoping there was a device that could be used in between for transferring files.
