I wonder how many credit cards woot had to sign up for to run this deal!

(Yes, I know it’s not the same unit, so you don’t have to point it out)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but there seems to be a better deal on this that they’re talking about over at Fatwallet. Apparently you can get it for $129.99 after rebates and coupons. Haven’t read the entire thread, but if you’re interested, check it out here.

Uhm, that’s for the H10, not this.

I’m a newbie and admit to being media ignorant, so please forgive me…

I have a media center pc… can i copy a DVD onto my computer, then put it on this device? Then use this device to play on my Tv? I’m thinking Netflix may not like me as much if i can do this… i can save my movies to watch whenever i want and send them back much faster…

If i can put DVD’s on this device, i believe my hubby and skids would be very happy!

THanks!

James Stewart - Vertigo

Okay, it plays MPEG1 and MPEG2, which is really hot to me because I’ve got a hardware MPEG encoder that I use to capture all my TV shows and whatnot – but (and this is a big but indeed) - does that thing only work with Windows boxes? Can you use this with a Mac? For those of us in the 3% of the market share, the lack of that info on products is horribly frustrating!!!

UPDATE – I got the info from the iRiver website’s heldesk: “The iriver PMC miltimedia [SIC] player is only compatible with Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Multimedia Center operating systems. It is not compatible with Mac OS computers.”

Lame.

I second that rant, with an important exception. I do find it useful when someone’s “Not for me” post takes the form of…
'If I were in the market for a {generic item} I would not buy {this particular item} because:
A) {different particular item} compares favorably (with accompanying list of reasons)
B) {this item} is unworthy even it were the only {generic item} on the planet because (etc.)

Those posts present solid counterarguments for those unfamiliar with the Woot In Question (usually me), and make much better reading than the completely useless “I don’t golf, so I don’t need to buy clubs. Good night.”

But hey, that’s just me. YMMV.

If I hadnt bought the 60g Ipod a while back I might have looked harder at this. My pod keeps me plenty busy!

iPod should be “i copyright infringement”

AZ, what does YMMV stand for?

But I liked some of yours better

Wow, I feel silly. Thanks for the answer and for your approval, strudleman.

whats the difference between the pmp 120 and the pmc 120?

this is awesome- only $20 cheaper than what is being offered on ebay.

my boss is sitting next to me looking at todays woot. he says to tell everyone that he got this for his kid at christmas and the kid came home from school crying because all the other kids made fun of him for not having an ipod.

equal parts amusing & sad.

I just bought this and i was wondering what the shipping and packaging was like. How long does it usually take and in what condition does this reach? I have researched this and there are very few Portable media players out there that are good, theres the iPod video(which i hate coz its only quicktime), theres the Creative Zen M which is a 100 bucks more but has a bunch of better features, but the battery life of this seems to be in the top few. also the creative Zen M has a 2.5" screen whereas this has a 3.5" screen. Also I prefer this because design-wise this is better than the creative (the actual divice is more focused on the screen compared to the creative Zen M which has half sceen and half touchpad+buttons). The external speakers on the PMC is not great but the sound out of the headphones is good. The creatives sound is much better. I figured with all this info id prefer spending 100 bucks less and getting a few less features and stuff, the recording from wmp10 is the only thing that concerns me. I hope i made a good purchase today… if someone can get back to me concerning the packaging and shipping that would be great.

It will probably be in the original packaging and then placed inside another box with the usual packing materials. It normally arrives through FedEx. I have had great luck with woot usually getting my woots to me within a week. Other wooters have had a terrible time getting their woots within a reasonable time frame. I don’t know if it has to do with their location or just the luck of the draw. I’ve always been happy with everything I’ve purchased. Welcome to woot.

In case anyone wants an H10 over this, there are a couple of refurb H10’s in the geeks.com sale on the sponsor link here:

http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=H10-20-BLU-R

Also the PMP-120 runs Linux and plays a wide variety of formats, and the PMC-120 runs Windows CE and plays only windows media and mp3. Odd that something called “PlaysForSure” plays very little and can only be set up from Windows Media Player. At least there are free tools for feeding iPods. It should really be called PlaysOnlyMicrosoftFilesForSure.

cpage-edit: the re-furb filter’s changed. hurray!
