The best kind of pet.

It’s deja vu all over again.

I purchased the “newer” model of this line of Roomba last month from Costco (Link:®-Roomba®-655-Pet-Series-Vacuum-Cleaning-Robot.product.100127929.html ) and I have to say I’m incredibly impressed. I was skeptical about its ability to move over surfaces, but it does a wonderful job. Programming it is very easy, the bot does a thorough job, and it’s great for that ‘every day’ vacuuming that you never want to do.

I’d still probably do a thorough vacuuming once every other week, but with three cats? It’s been a huge difference. The carpets are all clean! And it’s super easy to empty out. Strongly recommended to anyone with pets.

We’ve had a similar model for over 4 years. About 2 years ago we had to replace the rechargeable battery. It’s been very reliable and my wife loves it. We received it as a gift. I like the simplicity of emptying it.

How does it do with hardwood floors? We don’t have any carpets in our house, but we do have two dogs and a cat.

It actually does BETTER with hardwood floors than it does with carpet. Really works well on floors.

My cat would attack it and destroy it in minutes.

My mellow MN cats just look at it an mock it for moving so slow. Nobody has tried riding it yet.

I have the non pet version of this (model 530) and it worked well for a few years.

Pros… Works great getting dust, sand, dirt off of wood floors best. Awesome for going under beds and getting to places you can’t normally vacuum. My dyson does a better job at a deep vacuum on carpet but we used this in between for sure.

Cons… not many, this thing does work while you are away. I’d set it and let it run as I walked out the door.
Battery will have to be replaced at some point (which is why mine is not working right now)

The other note… Scooba is 10 times better on hardwood IMO. It vacs and mops. Squeaky clean.

Not sure where it went but there was a post here previously from one of the Woot staff indicating this was actually a new unit and not a refurb for what its worth.

I’m still waiting for a Roomba that can do Zumba
That will be the first infomercial that I DVR.

Should I be concerned that it’s factory reconditioned??

A “factory reconditioned” item was returned, inspected, and restored to fully working condition by the original manufacturer or a certified partner. And the original manufacturer stands behind it with a warranty. It’s as close to new as you can get without technically being “new”.

CAUTION - I just bought a model 560 from Woot. Unfortunately, I have black carpets. Because of the cliff sensor ‘feature’ which sees anything dark as a cliff - this product refuses to function for me. Neither Woot or iRobot wants to refund for the product. So I have a $200 door stop.

Does it say it won’t work with black carpets? I would not let Woot or the manufacturer get away with that. It doesn’t work. I would spend the time getting my money back. Also review everywhere possible about that if the really refuse after a serious effort. I know I would get my money back for sure. Maybe you don’t have the time.
Thanks for the warning. I will consider that if I ever have black carpet like you. Otherwise sounds cool to me except I forget to pick up things under the bed like coins and socks etc. I wonder if this sucks them up and jams like a regular vacuum or Not?

Does this model support the virtual wall lighthouses? I wasn’t aware that there was such a thing but am now interested, since it could let me clean three rooms at a shot. But the Lighthouse page ( says it is only compatible with “Select 500 series models”, and I can’t find a compatibility guide (The one linked sends me to a 404).
