Both these vacuums are excellent at picking up both dirt and pet hair and really pack it in. However with pet hair the auto empty port on the dust bin is too small to effectively unload collected fur to the bag.
With heavy pet fur (we have multiple dogs) a better choice is the Roborock S5+ also an auto empty vacuum but with a different bin empty process that clears more out of the bin with less manual intervention.
The key to any pet fur pickup is the double rubber roller on either of these units. We own the iRobot D3,J5+, Roborock S5+, several retired Shard Edge Clean models. The Lidar on the Roborock is superior to the iRobot Vision assist system in low light, but it can not detect pet waste like the iRobot, having ruined one other robot vacuum a Shark Clean robot, when it smeared poop for 15 feet, I can stress either doing pre clean inspection or having the smart detection feature.is a plus.
The price of the deals on the J5+ and J7+ are hard to beat just be aware of the auto empty limitations with pets. Both use the same dual rollers and self empty bin.
But on the plus side there is nothing better running 2x a day to deal with flea and tick season and keep floors spotless of both flea dirt and hair shedding.
