It's National Bunsen Burner Day! What was your favorite part of science class?

lol… I just built a little makeshift alcohol burner the other day out of a jam jar and the wick out of an oil lamp to press some nuts and bolts into a 3d printed model. I know typically a true Bunsen Burner is a gas operated burner, but back when I was a kid, this is what was included in chemistry sets. You remember those, right? Back when we got REAL chemicals like Potassium Nitrate, Magnesium and Cobalt Chloride instead of those dangerous “chemicals” like the vinegar and baking soda that they expect you to use today? Well, back in the Good Old Days, not only did we get real chemicals to play with, we also got alcohol burners, glass test tubes and glass pipes that you were expected to heat in said burner and bend to the shape you needed.

God, I miss the Good Old Days…

I loved my 1960’s era Chemistry set!
It did have dozens of real chemicals to experiment with, heat up, mix, sprinkle on snails, just see what happens. I also had a microscope for investigating pond water and bugs.
