I've Been Looking at This for Almost 15 Years--

And I need to know. What is a developer’s API key and why would anyone want one?

I have other long hidden questions, but we can discuss those at another time.

It’s used in the development of apps/websites, so as to integrate Woot stuff into them.

Mr. Penguin, why is it always the Letter people who ask for one? I seem to expect most of them to be bots.

Research is still being conducted on that.

Used for identification and authentication of a resource. If you got an app to use woot’s resources then they want to know who is using/abusing them.

You’re not very nice. I thought that it was something to do specifically with Woot, otherwise I would have looked it up myself.

Sorry to have taken up your precious time. Next time don’t bother to help me.

You now know more than your initial post.

  1. What an ‘API’ is.
  2. How it is generally used.
  3. It is a programming concept not uniquely developed by Woot.
  4. There is more information out there.

Please spare me your mock keyboard outrage that someone would do the basic research for you. Snoochie boochies!
