51 lbs? So… this is useless? Can’t use it for backpacking… if you’re going to go car camping, might as well just get a tent -
it’s much roomier and won’t feel like you’re trapped in a coffin. What’s the point?

I have one of these and I love it. Took it to Ragbrai (500 mile/7 day bicycle ride across Iowa with 20,000 of my closest friends). Everyone so jealous because it takes me 47 seconds to set up my “tent.” It takes me a little longer to pack up, 75 seconds. I keep a thermarest inside.

[MOD: different model]

Different model on Jet.

This a different model which is $30 cheaper from Kamp-Rite.

If it doesn’t have A/C and cable TV, I’m not interested.

I have one, we used it once and I hate it. It was way too hot with the rain fly on even in mild weather right on the beach (50-55 degrees at night). On top of that it feels like a coffin.

I have one. My son used it for boy scout camp outs. It was awesome when it rained. He was a foot off the ground while others were swimming in their tents.
They are Hot though, when the fly is down. You can open them up and have screens all around to let the breeze through.
Takes seconds to set up and take down.
Heavy and awkward to carry. Great if you can take it out of the car and just place it down.

I have one of these that I’ve used for 3 years for Jeeping trips. It’s a lot trickier to pack than a tent due to it’s size. And it’s heavy enough that you wouldn’t want to backpack with it. But it’s very comfortable. Keeps you dry and off the ground. I’d definitely recommend it.

Camped in Arusha in a campground, one night a colony of termites came straight out of the ground, through the ground sheet, tent bottom, and were swarming all over and around me when I woke up to find myself covered with insects that had mounted tunnel borers attached to their front ends. No bites . . . I don’t think termites bite people . . . but they made a sieve out of my tent bottom and gave me an experience right out of a camper’s little book of nightmares.

Something like this that raises the sleeping compartment off the ground seems like an excellent idea. They cost more, but a car top tent would be excellent too.

I have one and like someone else said it’s quite coffin like with the rain fly. I’ve only used it once in the winter time. It’s nice for folks that would bring a cot and a tent. Plus it keeps you up off the ground. Very well made. You can also use the cot seperately.

That assembly video was pretty quick.

That guy looked like he knew what he was doing. Best UPS delivery guy ever!

I guess they left out the part where those fiberglass sticks separate from each other when you slide them through the tent sleeves.

Bought the standard adult one in 2006. Used it on RAGBRAI in 2007 and several other camping outings. Great because you don’t have to worry about rocks poking you in the back. Retired last fall and left April 25 on a trip into Canada, trip insurance for Canada expires July 31. Springfield IL, Thunder Bay ON, Vancouver BC, Mt. St. Helens WA, Dawson Yukon. Bottom started tearing out threads, had local reupholster resew it. Rainfly was good but no longer waterproof, using 7 ft by 9 ft tarp. Bulky but not too heavy.

Looks like a great way to get off the ground when camping. A hammock would turn me into a pretzel.

Seems like a great idea to carry on the motorhome for when family members come to visit. Now when I make them sleep outside they won’t have anything to complain about. #comebacksoon

yes that is the CTC version which is a completely different model.

The point is you are off the ground and out of moisture/insects/rocks. It’s not any more of a coffin than most single backpacking tents. It does get hot, and it does trap moisture, but so do most backpacking tents in this price range.
